We have cancelled our Dish TV due to the recent contract dispute. However we find we MISS the PVR features. Is it possible to acquire a 501/508 receiver, hook it to our cable tv (is has no tuning box, just classic cable) and use JUST the PVR features on the cable tv signal? We are investigating the personal DVR products but find they all seem to require a subscription. yuk! :cry:
Sorry to hear you cancelled your Dish Network subscription. In fact you will not be able to use your PVR receiver without a subscription and you can't use it with regular cable.
My suggestion would be to re-subscribe again to Dish Network regardless of the contract dispute ( you might want to talk to their customer retention department).

we became used to the pvr feature on dish tv and i am trying to investigate stand alone pvr technology for straight cable, for which i DO pay. we left dish tv during the contract dispute, we no longer subscribe nor do we steal.

Yes ezsat; that was way out of line. Heather said nothing to indicate she was using or wanted to use a PVR to steal television signals. once you get hooked on a DISH PVR/DVR nothing else compares to it. If you set on keeping your cable and want PVR. Try RePlayTV, Amazon has 30-40 hr units on sale for $111.00, and a dealer on ebay has them for $114.95. hope that helps.
