Not moving to satellite position and other (related?) problems

I just had my system professionally (?) installed. I'm using it only for FTA Ku channels.

The main satellite that I want (AMC-4 for the BVN channel) works fine, but attempts to add other satellites through the "Add Satellite" screen fail because the data is not stored. I don't know why, neither did the guy who installed it.

When I run scans (auto scan, power scan) to add various satellites and channels, the same channels seem to be added over and over. That does not seem right either.

Now here's something I don't like at all: I don't really see the antenna moving when I jump from one satellite to another (the system is DiSeqC 1.2-enabled), even though the screen says "moving to satellite position." The only way I seem to be able to adjust the antenna position is through "Move" and "Step Move."

Something fishy is going on. Any help would be much appreciated.

FTA Motorized Satellite System (purchased from Sadoun):
  • Fortec Star Mercury II
  • Fortec Star FS80P 31" Dish
  • Digipower SG2100 motor
  • Universal Linear Ku 0.4 dB LNBF

The installer used the DiSeqC screen to point to and finetune the position of the main satellite (AMC-4). When he tried to add other satellites via DiSeqC and stored the information, the satellites would not show up in the satellite menu. The same happened when using the "Add Satellite" menu; the satellites would not show up in the satellite menu.

I experimented with entering my proper longitude and latitude settings in USALS, but when I did so, I lost the signal of AMC-4, so I went back to using DiSeqC.

if you are not receiving the sat in usals mode the installer didn't do a very good job at aligning your dish.

Rainman is correct here. USALS is your friend You first need to set the motor on 0 and then align as best you can on your true south heading. Now with USALS tell the receiver to go to the nearest satto that position. You now manually hunt for signal by moving the assembly on the mast and raising/lowering dish elevation.

You most likely are not saving your settings. The Mercury does not autosave anything as best as I can tell. So it sounds like you need to start from square one. What is your longitude?

Thanks so far!

DougRuss, rainman, elgemcdlf, and abriza, thanks for your replies. I'll check on Monday with my installer to figure out if he actually did align on the true south. I believe he did, so there may be something else going on. I will have to fool around with the setup a bit more. Anyway, thanks for now.
