What to do with my Dish 500?

My contract ends. I wonder there must be some use of my dish 500
system. Can I do any meaningful thing with it?

Can I use the LNBF on my FTA dish to act as a circular LNBF?

Re: What to do with my Dish 500?

Yes. Depends on what type of Dish500 lnbf you have, it will be easy or more complicated to make it work.
Check out the lnbf to see what type it is:
1. If you see there are 2 saperate lnbfs, then you have 2 single legacy lnbf, they are both connected to an external SW21 switch.
2. If you see there is a big lnbf, you have:
a. Legacy twin lnbf, the switch is built in.
b. Dishpro twin lnbf, the switch is built in.

In case #1, you just simply use a switch (Diseqc, 0/12, or 22khz) to switch between these 2 lnbfs.
In case #2, the built-in SW 21 can be controlled by Diseqc command, but it'll be very complicated to make it works. It'll be a long post to explain how to make it work.
In case #3, the Dishpro lnbf is a "stack-band" lnbf which understand Diseqc command. It can be controlled by the receiver using Diseqc but need to shift-up some certain freq. "Stack-band" approach uses 2 LO for switch, the way it works is similar to universal lnbf. One thing is different is all the transponders are now in V.
Anyways, if my post confuse you, forget what I said. Let us know what type of your lnbf is, we'll work from there.

Thank you for the great service and help.

The dish 500 system I have comes with two LNBF and a Y shaped addapter that hook these two together. But they did not connect the second LNBF when they first installed dishnetwork for me.

Do you need things like model number?

Then you are a lottory winner....kidding. Now things are easy. Get a switch as I suggested. I recommend to get a Diseqc 4x1 since most of the FTA receiver support Diseqc. Connect both lnbfs to port 1 and 2. Once you set up your receiver correctly, it will switch the 2 satellites automatically. The reason I recommend the Diseqc 4x1 even you only need 2 ports for now is that if you plan to add more dishes in future, the switch is ready. Diseqc 4x1 can be used to switch up to 4 dishes (or 4 lnbfs).
Remeber the LO for circular lnbf is 11250.
What brand is your receiver?
