Re: my contract end with dish network
1. DishNet is not a FTA receiver, therefor you can't use it to get FTA channels.
2. Not many local channels are FTA. Check out lyngsat.com to see if there are FTA channels you are intersted in.
3. In order to view FTA channels, you need to buy a FTA DVB receiver. Remeber one thing, there is no garantee that these FTA channels stay for good. They might be free today but encrypted or gone tomorrow.
FYI: There are few local channels on G3C and G10R:

http://www.lyngsat.com/g10r.shtml
Besides these local channels, there are ton of other ethnic ones.
Good luck,
Michael

You can use FTA DVB receiver to view FTA DishNet. Most of DishNet channels are encrypted (meaning not FTA). The music channels are FTA.

2. I was told 4 digit is C band and 5 digit is KU band , if the new receiver I but can it see both ?
3. what model of receiver that I need to buy to look at FTA , is easy to program ? cost ?
I need mostly news and sport and local TV news and music on dish, I don’t watch movie in this dish, I will use in a BAR .
Remember the two dish is on the roof, I just want to buy a new receiver , so I don’t have to touch the dish , which I don’t know too well, and also I need local channel

FTA DVB receiver is able to receive FTA on both C and Ku. The DishNetwork dish is too small for C and Ku linear. Yes, using DishNet you still can get FTA DishNEtwork channels. Unfortunately, there are not many FTA DishNet channels. All the DishNet music ones are FTA. Minimum size for C-band is 7.5ft, Ku linear is 3ft.

I highly recommend the Fortec Lifetime, very user-friendly. You can buy one from Sadoun. He will treat you professionally. You need extra attention from him, tell him you are Michael's friend...:-)
If you are looking for news and sports, I recommand you to get a Ku dish. 3ft is a good start, but 90cm dish is much better. Lot of ethnic channels. About local channels, they come and go. Some local channels used to be on AMC4 and G3C, but they were gone.
G10R still has some local:

Re: How many channel that I can see
All the music channels are FTA. Not many video channels. NASA and few religious ones.

You can"t watch nothing from other satellite with dishes from DishNetwork because:#They are pointed at DishNetwork and #allmost all other satellites are with weaker signal than DishNetwork satellites/in case you try to repoint the dishes, that you have on the roof/.And last thing# You cant get everything from one or two satellites, that mean motorized dish or multifeed antena/dish/I am not a DishNetwork fan, but if you have more ?,you are very welcome.

Using FTA in a Bar
If you want to use your DishNetwork dish to pick up FTA channels, I am sorry to say this will not work. Your DishNetwork dish is receiving signals from DishNetwork's Echostar Satellites and all of those stations are encoded, NOT FTA.
If you want FTA for a Bar, you will have to purchace a BIG DISH. With that you can receive the national broadcast networks (NBC New York, ABC New York etc.) and one or two news stations (Bloomburg, Fox News, DeutschWelle).
