Yes, the local HDTV channels are available using an over the air antenna (terestrial) and a digital tuner. Yes, it is free to air.
Thanks Sadoun, do I need HD TV in order to get the local channels with the digital HD tuner and the terestrial anntena?
Alfi
It depends on the tuner. I got an old Samsung off of e-bay used and it will work with a regular old TV set.
in a few years the digital signal to regular TV boxes will become more common. (and most likely better quality tunners at that)
and looking at the description of the card it does analog as well.. you would just need a video out graphics card for your PC to watch on your television.
you could get two of them and build a PVR rig. watch with one card and record with the other.. pretty sweet..
my question.. does it have a Mpeg4 decoding chip onboard? or Mpeg2?
Hello All,
I won the Digital Stream HD1150 ATSC OTA Receiver given away on this site a month or so back. Just wanted to input a little on it's performance. LOVE IT. DO I wish it offered more? Yes of course like being able to tie it to my sat receivers BUT it was simple enough to hook up. Coax from ant and AV cables to TV.
Next on the agenda was initial programming. I had a list of available channels prior to install so I knew what I should be getting with it. Ran it's scan and hit everyone plus a few not on my listIt grabbed signals not strong enough to watch (antenea direction) but available in my area. Talk about idiot proof
Menus are simple in nature to use. Appearance (menu) was very nice. Comparable to a higher end receiver for FTA or a big dish receiver (Motorola 4DTV). Picture quality is outstanding! I am so ready to throw out all my digital equip in favor of HD. Will be glad to see more HD as it becomes available. This also makes me want an HD receiver for my sat receivers. I know of the Motorola offering but is there a HD receiver for use with a FTA receiver?
The only drawback I found with the unit was it did not sit flat on all 4 corners. Like the chassis is twisted. I have not attempted to program the universal remote that came with it so I have no comments in that area but the remote is more of an upper end remote than the FTA remotes I am accustom to. I compare it to but not quite equal to my Motorola remote in feel and appearance.
Thanks again for a great receiver guys!
Steve
