VOOM receiver

Gentlemen

Is there anything I can use my VOOM receiver for snce VOOM went
out of business. It a shame that the receiver cannot be used for
other satellite systems even if it has to be modified.

Mine is still in use as an ATSC off-air tuner feeding my Tivo.

About all they are good for anymore is to act as an inexpensive ATSC off-air tuner - if it was active all the way till shutdown and still works as an ATSC tuner.

has anyone tryed to get FTA satilite channels on one of those old VOOM boxes?
I would think it should be able to get FTA satilite and FTA network broadcasts.
assuming you have a Ku Dish, and antenna and a diplexer (that is if your using an outdoor antenna)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but voom did not use dvb standard. I thought it was digicipher II (or variation of it).

I would kinda like to know actually.. I would guess that you would know more about it then me though.. I was just asking a question.. :mozilla_laughing:

I still use mine for the local HD channels. Works good for that, and is a keeper.

The Motorola boxes used Digicipher II. In the manual tuning menu there is mention of DVB, but no one I know of has received any DVB signals with the unit.

One big issue will probably be the EMM ID. When VOOM was still on Rainbow 1, I was able to tune channels using the manual tuning. I'd set the receiver on a known channel, then go to manual tune. Depending on what channel you started on, you'd get different PIDs.

The box itself has some pretty cool technology for when it was created. It appears that VOOM was going to add stacked reception to the boxes.

I am in possession of a .66m VOOM upgrade antenna that includes a stacked FSS LNBF with a bracket next to it which fits the existing LNBF. Eyeballing the spacing, I'd guess it was about 11 degrees, but I could be completely off. Perhaps I should post a few pics and let others decide.

I'd point out that with stacked reception, the existing wiring from the dish mount to the switch box would be able to handle the extra satellite.
