Tivo HD

I am looking for a way to record HD programing OTA. The Tivo HD has an ATSC tunner. Has anyone used one of these yet? Will it record HD OTA? This might be the best way for me to regularly record my weekly shows.

? That's what it's for, so I assume it should work. I've been hoping for one that would do both ATSC and also take something like component or hdmi from an HD sat tuner, but I don't think they are ever going to make one of those, as the market would be very small. So I'm kind of stuck recording ATSC and sat HD to my computer.

I installed my Tivo HD this past weekend. It was easy and the picture if phenomenal. I may have to eventually invest in a "black box" to allow the tivo to control my 4dtv receiver.

The down side is I can't seem to get KU on my Mercury II. I could not receive any KU channels on X0. KU works find on 4DTV X4. Was wondering if all the KU channels had left G0.

I will let you know more about the Tivo once I have time to play with it more.

Re X0... assuming that by X0 you mean G10r (I'll never figure out this 4DTV speak), then they are coming in fine here on my BUD. Re the TIVO-HD, I'm curious what they charge per month on that unit? I have 5 TIVOs here, 4 of which are old series 1s which aren't subscribed, plus I have one of the TIVO/DTV combos, that IS subscribed, and I think it's about $5/mo. However I've read somewhere that the non DTV TIVOs are more than twice that fee per month. I'm almost at the point where I'd like to get a HD TIVO, but not unless the monthly fee is reasonable (and the $5 is just barely reasonable... not really). As an alternative to TIVO for HD, I've started using the EPG grid in TSREADER, which is really neat. Ie TSREADER is the program I use for FTA satellite with my Twinhan card, and I stream video from it to my TV via a Roku. However TSREADER also works with my Air2PC ATSC card, and the local TV stations have a program guide along with the video, and TSREADER pops up a nice little program guide. To record a program, all I have to do is double click the program on the EPG grid and it automatically records it. Not as user friendly as a TIVO, but it works. I really miss TIVO though, with the HD stuff. Just wish there was a version that did satellite stuff, and had a reasonable monthly fee.

The one year price was 199 the two year was 279 and three year 299. I went with the 3 year. One because it was cheaper per year and two that determines what you pay from now on. I have only been using it less than a week, but I am completely satisfied so far.

BTW I sprung for the WIFI adapter and use my wireless broadband network to download the info.

THanks. THat's what I was afraid of, ie that's pretty expensive, at least for the 1 year... WOW. The 3 year you got is about what TIVO used to charge before they went in with DTV, and that is ALMOST reasonable, at least it would be depending on the features. Can I ask... does this version TIVO allow you to connect to the internet, and download guide data and setup info via the internet, or does it insist on using the phone line? The reason I ask, is that when I bought my first TIVO, it came with a free 1 month subscription, which I eventually let expire, but while I had it, it insisted on calling up by telephone, and the only access numbers were long distance, and it cost me something like $35 for just downloading the list of local channels. I eventually installed a network card in this series 1, and was able to hack it to get setup data via the internet, which was virtually free, since it's a local telephone number for me. My DTV/TIVO gets it's guide data from DTV, so it doesn't need the phone. Anyway, thanks for the info. This might just be worth it, particularly if I cancel the DTV/TIVO subscription, and just use my unsubscribed TIVOs in dumb mode.

wejones - the newer TIVO's such as this one will allow you to get the info via internet now. Plus their list of dialup numbers are pretty expansive too - you can get a local dialup number in cities with less than a thousand people in them around here... places that I didn't even know their citizens had discovered phones and electricity

That "newer TIVO" thing isn't 100%. When I bought my newest TIVO, they had been out with TIVOs that used the internet for quite a while, but the model I got (something like an R10 or something) did NOT have internet access, even though older and newer models did. Actually, there was some comment about "not implimented in this model", either in the manual or one of the screens. I think it has the internal NIC, but it just isn't handled by the software. I should check again. Perhaps they have a new firmware that does do internet. Last time I checked they didn't have any toll free phone numbers near me, but it's been a while since I"ve tried.
