Question OTA ATSC receiver

I am looking for an OTA ATSC receiver. I have a 15" Polaroid LCD that is HD ready, but does not have an ATSC receiver. Also I wondering if I could output the ATSC receiver to my current DVD/VHS recorder. I receive all of my local programming OTA. I have an HD TV and have become spoiled to the clear picture of a digital signal. When ever I have to record a show on my DVD/VHS the picture is many times lousy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I have two ATSC receivers.

One is a computer card, ie an Air2PC card, so you either have to view on your computer or send video from your PC to TV, either directly or via network. You used to be able to pick these up on ebay for less than $50.

My other receiver is a DigitalStream HD3150. This is a very nice STB, and can output to either a regular TV or a HDTV. I forget what outputs it has. I think Steve from Indianna has one of these too. I got mine on ebay for less than $75. I don't use it anymore though, because I got an HDTV which has a tuner in it.

I have a Digital Stream OTA receiver and love it. Won it here at Sadoun's site. If you search the forum you hopefully will find my reveiw of the receiver. You can check Sadoun's site Sadoun Satellite Sales ( 1-888-519-9595 ) Sadoun is a dealer and distributor of satellite television systems and consumer electronics. Dish Network, DirecTV, Free To Air, Sirius, Globecast, Twinhan and more to see if he still sells them. He wanted around $200.00 back then for one.

OTA HDTV recording

MReaves, This is a good question that I am still trying to figure out. How to record HDTV? I bought a LG DVD recorder, but it didn't have a HD tuner built in. I can only record analog tv stations. Now I see there are DVD recorders on the market with 'Digital' tuners, but they don't explain whether they are HD digital. Does anyone know?
I do have a computer with HDTV tuner built in and I can record to the hard disk, but the file for a movie in HD is huge (30-50 GB). Since a DVD holds only about 6 GB, you are not going to get a 2 hour movie on it.

Here is a question for everyone - Can I send signal from my HDTV to my DVD recorder, via one of the inputs, to record HD? There is an output on my tv, and I tried this, but the signal did not get to the DVD recorder. Nothing showed for that input.

Thanks

I don't think that's possible.

One option is to use a Series 3 HD TiVo and record and watch OTA ATSC content that way. That TiVo can handle both cable and OTA digital TV.

As for recording onto DVD, as wejones said, you probably won't be able to fit an HD movie onto one DVD, unless you down-convert it to standard defintion, which means it won't look as good as the original.

You might want to wait for the HD DVD recorders to come out and get within your price range.

For now, a series 3 TiVo or a dedicated computer with an ATSC tuner are two pretty good solutions for recording OTA broadcasts. TiVo is much more expensive, but very easy to use and set up.

Bill,

If you'd like to sell the Digital Stream HD3150 I'd be interested.

Thanks,

John
