    Telestar 5

Hi, I just got a new Fortec receiver. Set up dish and all, was trying for Telestar 5 but couldn't see the selection in the menu. Is there a different name i am supposed to select?

Few months ago name changed to Intelsat Americas 5 (IA5). It should be the very first satellite in the list.

Is there a trick to pointing the dish? Should i be using a certain transponder for looking for the signal? Having a hard time getting a quality signal with the receiver.

    Pointing for Niagara Falls

    Azmith 204, elevation 37

Yes, you need active trasponder. 11836 is strong here. On the antenna settings screen, cycle till that value shows.

You need to add the magnetic deviation for the area. I'm just a few miles from you... use a compass, point the dish to 216 compass degrees for IA5/Telstar5. (sat is at 205.7 plus 10 magnetic degrees = 216)

Add some skew to the LNB, while looking AT the dish "from the sky" perspective, turn the LNB to the "left" counter-clockwise so the base where the wire comes out is at the 4:30 O'clock position.

Now, adjust the elevation S-L-O-W-E-L-Y from 30 to 50. The scale on the dish is sometimes not very accurate.

Take your time. It's frustrating, but once you find the sat and the signal you'll wonder why it was so difficult!

still having problems pointing. I believe it to be my LNB and/or settings. When i ordered my dish, i asked for the universal lnb instead of the FTA lnb. On the universal lnb it has the Bell,Dish and DTV network logo's. What setting should i have as the lnb? Universal or standard. If standard what frequency should i use?

    Thanks

You have circular lnbf, wrong one. Circular is not UNIVERSAL type. For T5 and other linear sats, you will have to use either a standard or universal ku.
    Check the link below:

Item 1-4 is what you need.

I have never seen any kind of LNB with all 3 logos on it like you mention. It may be a circular polarity LNB and if so then you cannot use it for FTA and IA5. You need a linear polarity LNB; either universal or standard. If its a universal then set up your receiver for 10,600 MHz; if its a standard then set it for 10,750 MHz. Any other numbers you can read off the LNB and post here? We will try to identify exactly what LNB you have.

Got a new Linear LNB. Tried pointing the dish. I get the best quality when i don't skew the lnb. Does the LNB have to be skewed? I am trying to get the Korean channels. I ended up getting only 74 channels, none of them korean. I figured i have to align the dish a little better but concerned about the skewing of the lnb.

    Thanks
