    New FTA system owner

    Hi,

I have installed too many FTA receivers back home (Morocco) now that I live in the US I recently purchased a new Openbox S9 HD through Amazaon along with the 38'' dish (GEOSTAR) thinking it will be a piece of cake but I still cannot get any signal I have installed the dish properly and professionally, I have looked all the receiver's set ups all I can think of is may be the Satellite configuration as far as LNB Frequency or tresponders, the last thing that I am suspecting maybe because it needs to be on the roof even though its all clear where I had it no trees or anything ( Front yard).
Please help, all I am looking for is FTA NILESAT channels. Also If you know of anyone technician that I can call to come and fix it for me in the Birmingham, AL area please let me know.

    Thank you in advance.

Make sure your looking at a satellite between 61W and 125W in the U.S. to try. 97West or 125W is a good start. Also make sure you're on a live transponder. If your all lined up correctly you should get something by doing a blind scan....

Hello, if your are trying to get Nilesat @ 7W you may not be able to see that satellite.
Two Mercury II's, DG-240, 90cm Fortec, QPH-031, Viewsat Ultra VS2000, Solomend and an Openbox S9, DN Turbo HD dish w/DSS-LNB
I like to shop at Sadoun Satellite sales.

    A couple of things:

    1. You want to see Nilesat channels, Jim-S is right, that satellite is impossible to see from the United States, BUT if you are just talking about the channels themselves and not the satellite then you should be okay with a lot of them, they should be available on 97W.

    2. If all else fails TRY A DIFFERENT SOFTWARE VERSION FOR THE RECEIVER. I was stunned to find out that the same software that worked on the Openbox S9 downstairs DID NOT work with the Openbox S10 upstairs; I am using version HDS2-11-03-21:01A2M for my Ku band set up and it works fine. I tried loading an earlier version onto the S10 so it would go out to Hispasat, and the receiver didn't pick up a single transponder anywhere, at all, despite fiddling with all the LNB parameters, etc. And, yes, it was aimed correctly because as soon as I put the newer software back in it was fine.

That version won't even boot on my s10.
Firmware prior to april 4,2011- the tuner doesn't work on the s10.
    solomend/sathawk/openbox transition period maybe?
I assume the tuners were different, since the s10 can take an s2 tuner or terrestrial.
Comag sl 50/60/90/100 will boot on my s10,but the tuner doesn't work. These firmwares
were from 2009/2010 and show the same symptoms as trying to run jan 2011 on the s10.
They would probably work fine on a solomend even tho they are only 2meg flashes.
