    Fortec LNBF voltage out

I have a Fortec Star Dynamic receiver and while installing a replacement LNB, I wasnt paying attention and shorted the out the coax. Now the receiver doesnt have any voltage to power the LNBF.

Any suggestions? I looked inside and its all surface mount that this old man can't even see.

    Thanks,
    Greg

Are you sure there is no voltage at the IF IN terminal? Check with a VOM. It should read 13 or 18 VDC. Also make sure the receiver is set to supply power to the LNB. There is a setting to turn LNB power ON or OFF. It should be ON. I have abused many receivers by shorting out the LNB and never damaged one yet.

And yes, it is all surface mount technology these days...

Do you have a switch at the dish, if you do, try it without it in the circuit.
If you have a switch, it may have been damaged.

If you have an analog signal meter (Sadoun gives these away with dish purchase), attach it to the end of your coax cable. If there is light and sound, you got power.

    any some help guys

    hi ,
well yesterday i installed a 7 foot c band dish, and i really was happy because first time i got signal in intel 805 @ 55.5 and quality was just 44-50 but i was looking for more signal quality, i tried with a viewsat light and a pansat with no good result so i went back to the mercury II but quality still the same. is there any way to get better quality signal, maybe adjusting the focal lenght or maybe a bigger dish.

thank you very much for any comments

The Mercury II instructions say to turn off power and unplug it when working on the LNB. I unfortunately got my LNB and receiver zapped by either working on it without unplugging it or it may have been a zap of lightning.

My Mercury II would get about a quality of 32 and I was able to see great picture and sound with the C-Band dishes. The best way to increase signal is to try to aim the dish better, or adjust as you say, the focal length, and or rotate the whole LNB.
