Why do many prefer the Invacom QPH-031?

Seeing that the Invacom QPH031, isn't a Universal Lnb like I thought. Can someone tell me why so many like it?

And are there others at the Sadoun website that get Ku band FTA, or DSS satellite systems along with the Pacific/Atlantic?

Thankyou

It is a nice lnbf because it does both linear and circular.
Re the standard vs universal thing, some like universal since it lets them get that low band used over the Atlantic. Other people like me, prefer standard, because it is compatable with analog and DCII receivers. Ie I slave a DCII receiver, and sometimes an analog receiver off my FTA receivers, and they all assume a 10750 LO freq rather than the 10600 used by the universal lnbfs.

The low noise number of the Invacom lnbf is very attractive, particularly on signals that are not quite so strong as the norm. One of the primary attractions of having a standard linear lnb ( as opposed to a universal) is that a 22 khz switch can work with the standard ( universal uses 22 khz tone switching to change it's freq range, so it can't have a 22 khz switch in front of it ) . Using a 22 khz switch with an Invacom lnb, for example, allows you to have both a circular and linear signal go to the switch, then the output of the switch to a Diseqc switch ( where it can be parallel to other fixed dish lnbfs, on the other inputs ) and the output of the Diseqc switch to your reciever. The receiver can then select any of the dishes/lnb's with different combinations of 22 khz tone "on/off" and Diseqc ports. You can build up a real tangled web that way, If you choose to.

I have both the qph-031 and a forec universal lnb the qph just seem to have a better picture quality.

Somewhere along the same lines, I just got the QPH031 yesterday and like the FTA fanatic that I am I took down the Universal Invacom SPH031 lnbf and replaced it with the Quad. Great signals in all the EchoStar Birds. I said to myself, boy this is looking good until I switched to the linear side. I lost about 7% to 10% signal loss. A lot of the PBS channels on 89 W I can't get, Telstar 12 is a blur and SBS 6 is weak. I ran out of time last night so I'm going to check the cable connections tonight. Just want to ask whether or not this is problem with the Quad or is it me?

it is probably a connection problem the linear side works fine on mine.

Checking the connections is a good idea. Since you have 2 seperate linear ports, you might compared the signals with each other. It's certainly not impossible that you have a bad unit, but I've never heard anyone complain of a bad one.

Did you compare the signal when connected directly from motor to lnbf? Ie I'm guessing that previously you were not going through a DiseqC switch, but now you are, and these switches now seem to have significant insertion loss.

Also, have you tried a new blind scan? Ie the frequencies may be off a bit on one of the lnbfs. I know I had lower signal until I corrected for the different LO freqs, when I changed lnbfs.

But I do think that it may be the case that the low noise temps of some of these lnbfs may be due to decreasing the gain a bit. Sometimes you may lose signal strength but actually get a better quality signal.

I spent most of my time working on the circular side of the LNBF. I did do a linear scan on Telstar 12 and that's when I notice the signal loss. Again I was running out of time last night. I would take your inputs under advisement and see what happens. Thanks!

You may have to adjust your dish up just a bit. The QPH-031 is a considerably heavier lnbf than a single linear. It might be weighing your arm down just enough to cause the slight drop in signal. Not noticed on the Echo sats since they send a much stronger signal.
