Using BSC621-2 with TVRO and FTA C/KU

Hi. I was looking at the BSC621-2 C/KU LNBF BSC621-2 C KU Band Prime Focus LNBF and have a few questions about it. I know that it can be used in conjunction with a big dish (I finally got me a big dish now...a six footer) to view FTA, but can this LNBF also work for regular TVRO C/KU without any problems? I read somewhere that with this LNBF, the polarity is controlled by voltage and not a servo motor. So, how would this unit change polarity with a regular analog C/KU band TVRO receiver (mine is a Uniden UST-4800). Thanks for your help. Basically, what I am wanting is an all-in-one LNB that will work for both TVRO C/KU and FTA C/KU.

you can always slave your analog receiver off you fta receiver that way the fta receiver controls polarity.

Check the settings in your analog receiver. My DSR922 will allow lnbf's which is what the BSC621-2 is. The problem with the 922 and the BSC is that the BSC is a universal Ku lnbf and the 922 wants standard. If it will not allow it then you are down to slaving off of your DVB MPEG2 receiver as Rainman stated.

Most of the newer (ie less than 15 years old) analog receivers can control either a polarotor or a voltage controlled LNBF. I'm not familiar with the 4800 though. I have a UST 6000, which is about 18 or 19 years old, and it won't control an LNBF, so you'd have to slave like Steve said. But I think that the 4800 is newer than the 6000, so there is a good chance it would work. Either way, you'll probably be slaving on receiver to the other, so it doesn't matter too much.

I recommend the BSC621 (has a standard KU lnbf) not the MSC621-2 (which has a UNIVERSAL KU LNBF) for you.

the 4800 should do it Bill I have the 4600 and it will control a lnbf just have to add a switch.

I'm curious, what kind of switch? Most of the newer receivers will control a lnbf without any switch. My 6000 won't, but it has a mode where it goes between 14 and zero volts, and the second normal mode where it is always 18V. I have temporarily run an LNBF off this receiver by switching back and forth between the 2 ports (slaving to a 2nd receiver for the actual video). I assumed that with a bit of switching that I could probably control an LNBF if I used BOTH ports, and used the 14/0 port to control the switching, but I wasn't sure what kind of switch could be used to do this (I don't really WANT to do this, I just wanted to know that I could if I wanted to). I have an old RS voltage switch, but it uses external wires. I assume there must be some that switch via the voltage on the coax. I guess I could look through old boxes and find the manual for my 6000. It probably explains it all.

my undien 4600 says it requires a 0/12 volt switch Bill.
