What would I gain with a c-band for fta?

I've read for a couple of days here at the forum and still not finding my answer.
I was gave what looks like an 8' dish. It measure just shy of 8' (alum with small holes)
I've seen where I can get a vbox or an digitial or an analog receiver.

What I got is a MercuryII hook up to my 36" motorize dish I got from Sadoun.

The 8' has a motor, I didn't get the receiver with it. The lnbf says c-band DR100 and it is a prime focus.

I had a bud before that was install from a pro on c-bands, so I put the 8' on the same pole. I don't know which bird it was set to last, but I took the dish down myself and it was pointing about 290 degrees for same zipcode 74937.

Am I able to hook this dish up to my mecuryII and fine tune it to what ever bird it was on last, with out something special like a ku/c lnbf or anything.

I've hooked a birddog up to it and it shows about 50% sig where i got it pointed, then goes to LNB short.

I'm in bit a hurry sorry, but one of the main questions is:

If I'm able to hook this up to my MercuryII other than dish size what do I gain? Am I able to pick up other type channels with out haveing to get a different ird? Will this replace my 36"?

Thanks and I'll check back later...

if you add a bsc621-2 you could do away with your 36" dish with the feed horn i mention you can receive c and ku on the same dish you can use the v box to move the dish and the mercury shoud work just find with the bsc-621.

Hey Rainman,
Have you got your MercuryII?

I've seen the green smiley. Just curious how it compares..
The MercuryII is only one that I've tried.. been thinking about getting a different one to play with, and check to see if there's a better layout..

yeah I've got the mercury and its got a nice lay out a little different from the ultra but very navigable. the picture quality seems to be a lot better then the ultra also by using the component out. got it to hook to my c band setup so i could get the channels with ac3.

Cool!!

I've been enjoying mine, even the learning part..

Hey do you know if I can plug mine straight into the c-band lnf (DR100) to see if I can pick up the last bird it was on (kind of tune it).. I think it's pointing at F1, I'll have to check to see what's on there.. also is a c-band lnf without ku is that analog only? and if so Can the Mercury see the analog channels? I'm kind of anxious to hook up to the dish before I order the vbox and c/ku lnb. Just don't want to mess up the Mercury..

Thanks

the biggest problem you will have by using the mercury is that you will not be able to control the polarity it is usally controled by a polarotor on this type of c band feedhorn. should be a little blue box with 3 wires comming out this is usually controlled by analog receiver.some fta boxes will also control this but not the mercury my satworks will.

I was wandering about that myself. So with the new c/ku does it have the same servo motor. I replace about 2 on my first c-band off set dish)

Only thing I see to hook up on the vbox if I'm correct is: the motor wires and the coax from the dish and from the receiver.

Ok I guess I'll wait till I get my order in before I hook up to it..

Again thanks

no the bsc-621 does not use a servo motor polarity is changed by voltage like a ku lnbf.

Good deal, one less thing to worry about.

Going to try to order at least the lnbf today.
