Smile Problems with a 4-year-old Globecast receiver

I installed a Globecast satellite & receiver in 2002. We used it for paid programming for several months & discontinued the paid service. Since then, I have occasionally used it for the free stations that Globecast has.

Starting in the fall 2006, I could no longer search for new channels on it - it would get 43% done and then stop. To fix the problem, I tried resetting the factory defaults. The same problem continues to occur.

I called Globecast technical support and they told me it is an old receiver that no longer works with their system. I would have to replace it for $130 + S/H.

I was shocked that a 4-year old receiver for which I paid over $400 would be considered "obsolete."

Is it possible to use the receiver for anything? From online postings, it appears to have been made by Eastern Electronics. The model # is SC996-T105

FYI: I am a newbie to satellites, although I was able to install this one for myself.

Thanks.

-Bob

It could be that your dish is out of alignment or your LNBF went bad on you. Start with that and see how it works.

Question Would a bad LNB still allow me to watch some TV?

I was still able to get some channels before resetting the receiver, though. If the LNB went bad, I would expect to get no channels, would I not?

Is it possible that the dish alignment would be off enough to prevent proper downloading, but close enough to allow me to see some TV channels? If so, I'll check it when it warms up & dries up a bit.

Thanks.

When it would always stop downloading channel info, the signal power was 53%, and signal quality read 50%-53%. Please let me know if this means anything.

I think, 50% is enough to receive some channels.
Have you tried "NIT search"? - That would discover new transponders and scan them
