Newbie needs some information

Hi all... I'm new to FTA world.
I bought a satellite receiver week ago. Today I got my sg 2100A motor.
All I need to buy is dish and lnb.
How big dish do I need and what kind of lnb.
Any sugestion?

I'm assuming that my motor can only rotate 70° east and 70° west max.
I live in Oshawa Ontario my latitude is 78° West. With my motorized system I can point my dish at any satelite between 8.0° West and 148.0° West. Am I correct ?

Now
Can I aim the dish (with a stationary system) for Hot Bird 8 at 13.0°E from Oshawa Ontario, or do I need to drill a hole in the earth to get to that satelite ?

Can anyone answer my questions?

Thank You
Paul

sorry hot bird 8 can not be received in North America. a 36" dish should be ok for your area.

I'm not sure what the actual max rotation is, but the rotation angle of the motor isn't quite the same as the difference in longitude you get with that rotation angle. For example, for you to see 10 deg east of your longitude (ie to say 68 deg), your motor has to turn 11.2 degrees. However, people have posted here that the practical limit for this motor is lower than that. There are calculators that will tell you the USALS angle to a sat given your location and the sat's location.

Like Rainman said, no, you can't view that sat. But for 2 reasons. Yes, to have line of sight, you'd have to drill your hole, but the second reason is that besides seeing the sat, the sat has to be aiming it's signal in your direction, and this isn't the case. If you go to Lyngsat, it has a "beam" column that will give you the footprint for most sat's transponders. If you aren't within the area outlined by the map, you won't have much chance.
