Newbie needs some information

Hello; Being a Newbie to FTA, I wanted to get some general information.

I currently have a Dish Network system that uses a single LNB. I have two receivers hooked up to it. I have two lines coming from the Dish (Dual LNB), one going to one receiver the other going to the second receiver.

I want to get FTA and need to know if I install a dish for the FTA, along with a motor, how can I combine the signals using the already installed cables to the Dish network Dish. I want to retain the subscription with Dish network.

If possible, I want to eliminate the need to install additional cable since the original cables were installed when the house was built and to install new would be a real pain.

Any Suggestions?

Also, can the dishes that were used with Primstar be used for FTA?

Thanks!

Since you are only using a single LNB dish setup, it might be possible to use one of the coaxes for an FTA dish, but you wouldn't be able to use both Dishnet and the FTA at the same time.

The primestar "dish" can be used for FTA. The primestar "lnbf"s will work too, however some of them have separate ports for H and V polarity, so they would require a switch to switch between H and V polarity. You could possibly also use the same switch (provided that it works) to select your dishnet LNBF, however this would mean that to do dishnet, you'd have to first use your FTA receiver to select Dishnet, and also select the polarity you want on dishnet, which I doubt that you'd want to do.

Your best bet would be to get a new lnbf for the primestar, and run a separate coax.
