Anyone use a Vs MaxHd for true fta..ive noticed some odd things about it! Please read

decided to put my 33" motorized setup back up so the old lady will have some tv to watch..

i was using my old ultra to point to Amc 5 (79 degrees)
with my ultra i get signal about 74.. and quality peaks about 60 holds steady about 45-50..... not bad.. im sure i can do better..

    thats with my ultra.

Now if i leave everything the way it is and hook up my Maxhd.. i dont get anything for quality.. put the ultra back on and BANG got quality again.. on amc 5

Now in the ultra amc 4 is listed as 101.... with the max had amc4 is listed as 100.9

amc 2/c is listed in the 101 slot... if i choose that i dont get any signal or quality...

thats with lnb setting of 10600 or 10750... 10600 seems to work best for me on galaxy 19 get about 90 channels i think..

i know i need to do some more tweaking as the channels dont work 100% of the time.

any ideas if the amc 4 on my maxhd is correct????

    EDIT!!!

OK.. i removed all my switches amplifiers everything but motor dish and 1 cable..

still not getting anything for amc4 on my maxhd.. ultra NO problem LOADS of channels come in..

the setting are exactly the same..

i dont get it.. the max not a good FTA reciver?? my $100 ultra is better for fta then my $400 Max.. NOT COOL!!!

max has MUCH better picture quality in SD then the ultra does but im starting to think the ultra has a better tuner!

But the question is, do you get HD pictures with your Max HD?
The only thing I could think of your proplem, is that maybe the Max doesn't have the specific transponders tuned in for AMC 4. Can you blind scan with the Max HD?

Re: Anyone use a Vs MaxHd for true fta..ive noticed some odd things about it! Please read

I am trying to do thing this weekend.

Had my MAXHD sitting there for several months so decided to try my hand at True FTA.
Bought a Hotdish90, SG2100, and a QPH031. I was outside for several hours getting it all together.
Never got any quality but got very strong signal (96+).
Read somewhere that I should put the factory BIN back on the MaxHD as it was better for True FTA.
After that it was all down hill. Never got a signal again.

Was going to put the old modified BIN back on (PFTAHDMSW-090506HM) then I stumbled across this thread.

I'm worried because either my unit didn't come with the SD unit or I lost it along the way.
Either way I don't have it and I don't know what to do. If that is the reason I have hit a road block.

I'm going to call a buddy of mine to see if he has one but I really really doubt it.

While I do that I was hoping you guys might help me check my settings:

    SATELLITE: AMC 6/C (72W)
    LNB POWER: ON
    Lnb Type: STANDARD
Lnb Freq: 4040 (That's a guess... I dont remember what it defaulted to)
    22KHz: OFF
    TP Freq 12224
    DisEqc 1.0: NONE
    Motor: OFF
    Legacy Sw: NONE

For right now I am bypassing the DiSEqC Switch and only using one Linear LNB out of the 4 available.

When I do connect the switch I will have to choose the ports and that really confuses me.
From what I see my 4x1 switch has 4 inputs (LNB1-LNB4).
Does LNB1 (which will most likely be connected to Linear LNB #1 from the QPH031) correspond to Port 1? Or as I described, Port 1 = Linear LNB #1.

    Thanks !

AMC6/c is a C Band satellite setup on the Viewsat Max hd. I have the same receiver and had to add some satellites. This is how to do it.

    1) Press "Menu" on the remote goto "Installation" and select "Channel Scan".
    2) move orange bar to "Edit" use right arrow to change it to say "Add Satellite" Press "Enter" to create a user defined satellite. You can rename it in the next step.
    3) move orange bar to "Edit" again right arrow to change it to say "Rename Satellite" Press "Enter" You will be renaming the just created satellite.
4)User that pop up screem to rename it to AMC6/Ku 72.0W or what ever you want it to say. "F1" Saves that name.
5)use right arrow button to "Antenna configuration" Press "Enter" you need to enter in the data for you lnb etc.
    Mine is set to
    LNB Power = On
    LNB Type = Universal
    LNB High = 10600
    LNB Low = 9750
TP Freq will say 0 for now.
DiSeqC 1.0 = none " if you are using port of that hotdish" I'm using 1 on for my dish
    Motor = USALS

6)Press "Exit" and "Yes to save.
    satellite is created
    now to add transponders
7)Press "Menu" right arrow to "Seach/Edit TP" Press "Enter"
    8)F1 add user TP
    Freq = 1251 S/R = 6891 Pol =V FEC = Auto
    Press "Exit"
the dish will move and you will see signal and quality.
orange will highlight what you just entered. Press "Enter" to scan that tp.
It will fail if there is no signal/qual.

I had to setup a few satellites this way. I purchased this receiver on ebay pretty cheap.
I have never used it for non intended purposes and never plan to! This receiver doesn't seem to support DVB-S2 and
blind scan doesn't seem to work either. I have manually added transponders and then scanned for channels.
it has a pretty nice picture. I have had mine for about 6 weeks now.
It will work on PBS on AMC21 125.0w just fine. You will have to add that also to work.
The chanel Editor v1.7 is very helpful in changing names of channels etc.

Oh be sure to use a linear output from that lnb for 99.9% of FTA stuff now.

The Invacom lnb is a linear/circular lnb built into one and if you look at the four outputs on the lnb you will noticed there labeled "LCLC".Since there isn't much FTA left on the circular sat's you only need to connect to the "L" port with no DiSEqC Switch.Which sat are you trying to get currently?

    Thanks for the reply Frisky!
I'm glad someone has the same setup as I do. And that its working to your satisfaction.

And thank you for clearing up my confusion about AMC-6.
I think its going to be a while till I get its all straight.

Some of my other questions are:
*Does your MaxHD unit have the HD module (8spk) or the standard module installed.
*What firmware revision are you using? Original factory bin or another? If you got it off eBay (and you haven't done anything to it) the previous owner may have had another firmware installed. I want to replicate your setup as much as I can since it works.

    Thanks!

If you only have the aftermarket module then you can't use the factory firmware.

Thank you for that! I figured it had something to do with the firmware and you have confirmed it. Is it okay to use the latest bins that are labeled Telephonica?
