French language satellites/channels

Hi everyone, a neighbor's wife is from Belgium so I'm researching french programming.

Anyone know where there's some FTA programs in french?

On a side note, Atlanticbird 3 at 5 west has some, I'm in Virginia, is there a ghost of a chance of getting anything like that? Elevation from my location is 5 degrees, provided a clear line of sight is available, would I need some huge dish? Would the broadcast be in PAL rather than NTSC? Does PAL vs. NTSC matter?

Thanks for your indulgence.

Mike

For the 5W you might need something like 6' or bigger.
Did you tried 43W? There could be something...

Vitruvius will become famous soon enough
Sorry, I think, based on the Lyngsat Map coverage for Eurobird 3, you would need a 600cm (18 feet) dish and that may be iffy...

Atlantic Bird 3 at 5.0°W - LyngSat Maps

You can get dutch programming BVN on a couple of sats in the US... but to get the french programming your wife would desire.. perhaps the internet is the best option.

107.3 Anik F1R

I just got my 6 ft dish aimed at 107.3 and there are a few french language stations on the C-Band. Religious and documentary programs... and even Martha Stewert in french...
There is an Algierian station on 97 Ku sat that has programs in french.

What sort of system are you looking into? You probably could get a small dish, 36" I'd recommend, and subscribe to a Canadian sat provider on 107.3 and maybe 111.1.
