Power scan

How do you people do Power Scans.
1. Do you do a power scan without deleting channels on the satellite.
2. Do you delete all channels then do a power scan.

I have done them both ways.
I'm just curious
Jim

Well if you want to clean the list, you would delete the channels 1st then do a power scan.

However, I usually don't delete any channels before power scanning.

sometimes

Well, when my system is working... right now it is not...
I'd powerscan without deleting to see what new channels are available... Then if I think it is worth it... I'd delete all channels and do a total rescan of all the available sats...
I don't like having sats that are scrambled so I prefer to run the FTA scan only. I have found that on some occations, the powerscan would get additional FTA stations that aFTA scan would not get. Has that happened to anyone else?

Hey Vitruvius, I agree in that I have found TPs with PowerScan that the FTA only scan did not find. My conclusion that PS is slower, and more thorough than FTA only scan. I guess I then should delete the encoded channels to reduce space in the receiver's memory ?

there is a FTA button

TexRed George, With the Mercury II, I found a useful tool.... You can push the power scan button, then there are settings you can adjust in the Powerscanning window. The button for accuracy is usually set to 6. 6 what, I don't know without the receiver here. I turn it to 4. I set the scan to detailed... And then there is some toggle that is always set to 'ALL'. You can change this to FTA. I don't know if this FTA powerscan will get you more stations in FTA than the straight powerscan and delete, but it will get it close. If you powerscan everything, you may get stations in the clear that are meant to be locked but for some reason are in the clear...
