Question Circular versus linear on Ku band

I've been playing with linear Ku for a while, and I'm happy happy happy.

But then doubt creeps in. What am I missing on circular? I only speak English. I have no clue on how to use my Fortec receiver with a circular/linear LNB.

But what am I missing?

Help?

Al

you are not missing much Al most of the circular KU channels are dish and BEV info channels. every now and then a few channels will pop in the clear but not much.only channel that I care for that is circular is NASA. and I can get those on c band.

Hello Rainman..............With my equipment listed below, if I change lnb to QPH-031 lnb and add switch (which one ?) would I still be able to get the usual FTA channels, what I am striving for is NASA on Echostar 7 @ 119. Is this even possible. Then I would need to know how to setup the receiver.
Thanks Jim-s

Al and Jim, Yeah, if your system is up an running it is pretty easy to get the circular going. You need just a circular lnb or that Invacom with dual linear and circular. Rainman is correct that there really isn't anything great to watch except one NASA station. On my 6 ft Cband dish I can pick up 3 NASA stations. There are a couple adds for Dishnet on circular... but it is useless. My Invacom gat zapped, so I have no circular and have no intention to get it again.

The settings are easy in the MercuryII. For each satellite you will need to designate it one or the other, circular or linear by selecting the frequencies, 10750 is linear and 11250 is circular, and 5100 is C-band. Universal is for universal which is a higher range, I think. See this link where Rainman explained it all to me: http://www.sadoun.net/forums/install...qph-031-a.html

For the type of diseqc switch to use, I usually see what Sadoun is selling in one of their kits, and order that one... I have one with five connections, the one in the middle is the feed to the receiver, and then the outside are just sequential 1,2,3, and 4. These are the names you set in the Mercury II for each satellite. You with have to tell each satellite which LNB feed to use if you go from a single LNB to dual LNB.

good luck

Hey...........thanks for your reply it helped me to understand it all.
Now I have to decide if I want to spend the money for maybe one channel, NASA.
