FTA Europe

Ok I am not sure if someone can help me with this, but I will ask. I will be returning to Romania in January and I want to install a satellite at my wifes house. Could I take a receiver from here to receive FTA? Also, which receivers here support via access? The cost there is pretty high for receivers, I was just curious. I know they are designed for 110v, but I have that taken care of. Thanks

You would also have to consider that European electrical systems are 50Hz where USA is 60Hz.

The TV system is PAL instead of NTSC.

As far as being able to sub the box to Via Access, that is something I cannot answer. I would think that any STB that employs CAS or a CAM module would be able to sub to anything compatable.

Europe also has DVB-S & DVB-S2.
You can use an adaptor for 110V>230V.

If you wanna receive astra/Hotbird you would need a BIG dish, starting at 150cm.

Could you explain to me why I would need a 150cm dish to receive European satellites while in Europe?? According to Lyngsat for HotBird 6/7A/8 at 13 E has about a 50 EIRP in Romania and would require at least a 50-65cm dish. I have the transformers to reduce 220v to 110v, but I am curious about the Hz. I don't think that much of a difference would cause any issues considering the average US AC Hz. is little more than 50. This is why clocks become slower over time. Where could I find out more if they are in DVB S or S2?

Thanks

Lyngsat lists the transmission format and then also check the beams section.

Generally hotbird is okay, but some transponders are weaker and astra would require a bigger dish without doubt.

I have the classic na. This I was reading has an operating voltage of 90-240v and 50-60Hz. So good there. Is this capable of DVB S2? I do not see on Lyngsat's website where they list specifically that it is DVB S2, just DVB. Could you point me where I could see this? Also, would it be possible to set up a HH motor in Europe? The Classic NA seems preloaded with all the N.American satellites. How would I begin getting it ready for use in Europe? Thanks...

If you run a device designed for 50Hz on 60Hz, or visa versa, you run the risk of damaging the transformer, or worse, fire. Most quality power supplies are "universal" and support 100-250 VAC 50-60Hz. I would stick to a product with a universal power supply. My Fortec Star Lifetime Classic NA has a universal supply, so all I would need to do is change the plug to safely power it on anywhere in the world.

Good travels!

Al

P.S. I write requirements for mobile command and control systems, and I've been dragged through the wringer on this one too many times...

In lyngsat the tr. method is listed for every transponder/program, either PAL (analogue), DVB-S or DVB-S2. DVB-S and DVB-S2 can be either in mpeg2 or mpeg4.

Check the setup in the receiver for pre-programmed satellites from 90e - 65w.
