Problems Come Begging

Trying to get the Fortec Star Mercury II setup is taking my patiences. I got GO satellite scanned in, and received The Outdoor Channel very good, audio and video. Went to T7 121.w and made the Power Scan. I can get Sports Time Ohio channel, TVN, but no..The Sportsman Channel. It shows that I scanned #3724 which shows that the number for this channel. It shows it avaiable only DVB. I thought this Mercury was a MPEG-2 DVB FTA unit.

Also the Sports Time Ohio channel has good viedo, but NO audio...???????

I get most of all the other channels on this satellite, but the Sportsman Channel will not show up.

Any idea what is causing the problem?

Rainman, I have the LNB going to a splitter, with a coax from the Power Pass leg on the splitter to the 922, a coax from the other leg to the Mercury receiver. So, would this be called a slave to the 922?

The 922 is upstairs in the family room, the Mercury II is downstairs in the den. I have the 922 on satellite T7, and have Power Scan the channels (I think) and saved them, but, I get only the Sports Time Ohio (with no audio signal) with video only, plus TVN channel. No Sportsman channel shows up.

On satellite T7, what is the first channel that horizontal? So, I can set the 922 on this channel, and go downstairs to scan and save these FTC channels.

it's channel 1 on mine.was watching the sportsman channel tonight and it was working fine and yes you are slaving the Mercury off of the 922 so you will need to control polarity with the 922.

There is no.. Channel one on this satellite...Intam-13 at 121.W.

I have the DSR922 on T7 (which is Intam-13 at 121.w) On channel one of this satellite is...CST Engryp Dlby...

Lets start a new instruction manual..

Turn on Fortec Star Mercury II receiver. Clink on "Menu".
"Beat it with a hammer"

A.Installation:
1. Antenna Setup.
2. Search for Intam-13 satellite at 121.W.
3. Found it... Press Ok.
4. Press... 'Auto Scan'
5. LNB type... LNB-5150
6. Positioner... Off
7. Transformer... 3724 (H) 3002
8. 0/22khg... Off
9. Switch... None
10. Input... None
11. Port... 1

Press Scan... FTA channels. Satellite No. 39 IA-13 121.0 W (+)

I get all the FTA channels loaded in, but not the Sportsman Channel.

Next step.. Trow away the Fortec manual, as this isn't the correct way
to upload the satellites.... Correct?

when you move the dish to IA13(T7) with the dsr922 set the 922 to a horizontal channel if you need to see a picture use channel 21 on the 922 should be the jewlery channel this is a horizontal TP now do a power scan with the Mercury on IA13 horizontal channels only and the sportsman channel should come in set freq steps to 4 locking speed to detail and you should get the sportsman channel.

That did it, rainman... got it working during the NY Giants touchdown drive in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter. Maybe they had something to do with it working.

Thanks very much for the excellent help here. However, I have one other problem... no 'audio' on The Sportsman Channel. I get audio on all the spanish speaking channels that is on that satellite. I'm using RCA (A/V) cables from the Mercury receiver to the TV. Would a S-Video cable be better?

On the G0 satellite, where the Outdoor Channels are (3 in fact), I get audio on on the first one only. Same problem probably applies here. Any help will be appreciated.

If you are talking about the channels I think you are they are AC3. You will need a digital dolby converter to listen to them. Most any surround sound receiver should handle the trick just need to make sure it has at least 1 optical input.

as Steve said it
is AC3 you will need to use the optical cable out of the Mercury to a digital audio decoder most cheap surround sound systems will work.

This AC-3 question mark certainly throws a wrench into the gears. From all that I read about the Mercury II, it carried the AC-3 audio. What is Dolby Digital 5.1 Pass-through deal that the Mercury shows to have?

From what you two have written, this receiver does not come up to my standards... just a cheap reclaimed piece of metal junk from US to Korea and back.
It certainly not worth the $109.00 +s/h to get a few (three) FTC channels, plus the costs of a 2-way splitter. Maybe, I should have spent $600.00 and obtained the better junk that's available.

What throws me, is, some channels are audio/video free. The Outdoor Channel has audio. So, where is the receiver lacking in performance?

First if you are only getting 3 channels you are really missing the boat. Might not even be at the correct lake. I have well over 1000 channels in my Mercury II. Each sat for the most part has channels. That may be all that is available on that sat. As to AC3, Fortec receivers pass Digital Dolby through the optical output. AC3 is Digital Dolby. You require a converter/decoder to listen. The stream is there and free, you just do not have a decoder or do not have the decoder connected to the receiver.

Ac-3 Been There

Back when I was dealing with this problem, one of the solutions recommended was the Cyberhome Sonic Voom Headphone set with AC-3 converter. Around 20 bucks including shipping on EBay. I bought two. Works great. The Stereo 3.5mm jack gives two channels of line-level output to direct into an amp or amplified speakers.

The VERY cheapest solution.

I have probably 150 channels loaded, it's just the three that I was interested in watching. I will load more as I get familiar with the process.

NOTE: Audio problem solved.

Here's what I did... just let some of the old brain cells come active again...think!
Went in and change the setting to.. SPDIF output to M.
On the remote control... press 'audio' button.. a window comes up... AC3 and ENG listed. Highlight..ENG, and press OK. WOW! I have audio on all channels.
