Uploading new .bin into Mercury II Question

--No, not a hack .bin, but the MERCURY2_V0153.bin firmware from the Fortec Star website. I am updating my old 1.06 to 1.53 version. Anyway, when I go to upload the latest 1.53 firmware into my Mercury II, it won't upload. Here are the steps I have taken to upload the firmware: 1: Open S/W Loader V0.98. 2: Click on "Download" on the loader. 3: Click "20070716_MERCURY2_V0153" that I saved to my desktop. 4: Click "Open". Then, it reads "Invalid File". I assume it reads "Invalid File", because a media player I use to play DVD's tries to open it (I use VLC Media Player). What kind of program should I use to associate with the 1.53 firmware so I can upload it into my Mercury II? Thanks for the help.

You will need winzip installed on your computer as the Fortec downloads are in zip file format.

Data Cable important too

I have a Lifetime Ultra with the appropriate Straight through Female-to-female 9-pin data cable.

I thought the Mercury II would use the same type but it requires a Female-to-female 9-pin NULL modem cable.

Switching the old cable to the new box did not work.

It's always something!

You are correct, Mercury II use a NULL modem DB9 cable w/ Female-to-Female connectors. As raiman mentioned, you need to unzip both SW_Loader and 20070716_Mercury2_v0153 files first. Make sure turn the receiver off when you start the SW_loader application, the loader will prompt you to turn the receiver on later. Change to COM2 if COM1 does not work.

Just received and installed a Mercury II receiver. Would this new Fortec have the latest Vo153 bin firmware? There wasn't a #RS-232C 9-pin DB9 female to female Null modem cable with the unit, so I had to order one.

I think the last update fixed a Transponder problem on Galaxy 25.
