Quest for Southern Sky!

A property next to mine has a lots of pine trees (average 200ft tall) that block my southern sky . It's up for sale now and I wish to have $400K to buy that lot. There are some small open gaps between those trees and wonder what is a minimum open sky to set up a 36" dish with good receiption.

Regards,

it all depends if a satellite is located in the open spots.you may be able to pull in some but probaly not all.

ayelvington will become famous soon enough
work with it

have you considered putting up a tower and letting the trees be? If they are to the south, the shade alone is saving on your summer cooling bill depending on how far north you are.

A modest tower set back a ways could give you a significant chuck of the Clark Belt.

Tower is not an easy solution. AT&T and Verizon have tried for more than 3 years to put a new cell tower with camoulflage desgn to make it looking like a pine tree but the comunity has not approved yet (I don't expect they will). Well, may be the Clark Belt is not high enough for me .

AT&T and Verizon are not private citizens.

I did a little homework, using a compass, and found those spots (maple trees) are good for Echo4, 6, 7, 8 and nimiq2 (well, at least for the dormant season). Are those birds good for a TrueFTA?

If you are an amateur radio operator, you may put up a tower. You could build a tower, put an amateur radio antenna atop it, then put your sat dish(es) on it.

ARRLWeb: Antenna Restrictions: PRB-1, Covenants, Volunteer Counsel and Volunteer Consulting Engineers

If you are near an airport, FAA may require the structure be registered and perhaps lighted or painted.

FCC OTARD rules permit masts of upto 12' and dishes up to 1m.

I'd suggest forestry to the outgoing land owner.

Thanks JP, The highest point of my house's roof is almost 35ft high and I will go up there to check it out next week when the weather gets better.
