Oops! what'sup with my poor G10r signal?

Well, ... searched the threads but do not see much on this ...

Is there any reason my reception of G10r shows up heavily garbled and noisy ... like a very poor signal ... while other times it's smooth and clear ... and a few other times a little bit of signal loss here and there ...

I'm experiencing my own form of "PMS" (Perry Mason Syndrome) .. couldn't get it in clearly last night ... URGHGHGHGH!

Anyhow, is there a general G10r signal degradation at times .... or is something going on with my seup?

Fortec classic; motorized system; 36" dish ...

Thanks!

G10r has been fine for me. lots of reason for loosing signal wind moving the dish or a tree branch into your line of site or maybe a lnb that has gotten temp sensitive.

Thanks, I should mention:::

Thanks for those comments.

Well, the weird thing is that one day it's pretty sharp ... then a day later maybe, somewhat distorted ... unpredictable ... doesn't matter whether if it's clear sky or stormy out.

Oh, I think I should go back up and check with my meter. But when I click on "info" on my remote, I see that the signal quality meter on the screen is "kind of" what I expect it to be ...

I say "kind of", because I don't remember the exact level ...

I have a full clear view of sky .. so no tree anywhere ... lots of geese overhead though ... gee, hope one of them didn't *you-know-what* on my setup ...?

They're getting our cars constantly!

Something else to always keep in mind. If you have a good setup with good numbers (ruling out site) a storm at the uplinkers end can also cause it. There are so many variables but I will say since I got my setup tweaked into max on all sats I had problems as you describe. I have not seen one in many many moons BUT at the same time I am now watching G10r off the big dish since I have not had ime to replace a bad motor on my little dish.

Had similar problems only on certain G10R transponders. Turned out my LNB had some mositure in it. Its worth a look if you have an extra hanging around to check this out.

Getting consistent high 70's and low 80's

I'm in California and getting a consitent high 70's and low 80's as my highest quality signal. It also depends on your receivers, I have a traxis that only gets mid 70's while my manhattan gets low 80's as it's peak on G10. I never really see a problem with the signal unless hail or a real bad storm comes in.

What are the chances that I could have water or moisture in my LNB?
I have been losing channels lately and signal quality too. I have a Sadoun Universal single LNBF (ULN1) (Black) that came with my motorized system that I bought from Sadoun. I have scrubbed the dish and checked my settings and tweaked them. I want to go out to the dish and check all of the connections and Vaseline them to weather proof them, but right now I have a fractured ankle that is very painful to walk on. The possibility of moisture in the LNBF is something that I hadn't considered but could be my problem.

Is this a common problem and wait do I need to do to check this?

Thanks
Bill

I guess the question that I am asking here is... How would I know if I have moisture in my LNBF, and what can I do about it? Do I need to replace the LNBF, (probably not right now), or maybe I could put it into the oven overnight with the pilot light to dry it out, and then seal it outside with a plastic baggie or some silicone caulk?

(Dang twisted ankle isn't helping matters, but at least I have the dish mounted in the back yard at eye level and not on the roof).

Most of Galaxy 25 has faded from view this morning and I am watching other signals drop too...

one thing you can try powrline is use a hair drier on your lnb at the dish when the signal starts to fade and see if it comes back. if it does it means your lnb has become temp senstive and needs replaced.

BackTracking? Now there is a good idea!

I began troubleshooting the symptoms in my mind this morning (as the cold wind blew and the chilly rain started falling at a nice rate).

LNBFs may fail slowly, but why now?

What is the last thing that I did to my system to cause a change?

(I sprayed the dish with Pam to keep the snow from sticking 4 or 5 weeks ago).

Now that was dumb, and caused the dish to have a nice sheen in the sunlight and it was textured when it got cold causing the "bounce" of the signal to be fragmented. I noticed the signal loss everyday the temperature dropped. That is why I "scrubbed" the dish. The Pam had been removed after my wife scrubbed it two days ago, then I scrubbed it yesterday just to be sure.

Before that I added an 18" dish to receive Muzak from Echostar 7 @ 119.

That worked out great as I also received the Nasa Channel off of the same satellite.

The weak spot in the whole equation though is the $4.00, 22kHz Switch that I used to switch dishes.....

After removing the switch from the mix, (and not receiving Echostar 7) I have restored the signal level back to the 70's with the signal quality in the high 60's again.

Thanks Rainman for your help, as I may need that bit of info about the hairdryer in the future.

Bill

p.s.

With my ankle busted, I wasn't happy about making even one trip out to the back yard to "work" on the dish, let alone losing TV signal daily.
(screams out loud!)
