no audio on 87w

I have a cool sat receiver I can get no audio on 87w except for one foreign religious station. I deleted the old transponder and reinterred the current numbers from Lyngsat still no audio. get 83% quality, did an advanced scan, auto scan, manual scan, blind scan video comes in good. Put in the current video and audio pid's. The transponder is set up 12180-v-3000 video 305 audio 308. Any advice on what I can try would be greatly appreciated?

if you are refering to the pbs stations the audio is broadcast in AC3 mode you will need a receiver to pass AC3 and a decoder such as a surround system to decode it.

Those are in ac3 audio and your receiver needs an coaxial or optical out put on it.You would then need to connect thet to the in put of an ac3 decoder on a stereo system with the same kind of input.Hope this helps.

May be I'm wrong I thought I had audio before I added a switch but if create needs a decoder It is possible I made a mistake.

There is/was one PBS channel on 87 that was not AC3 but all the others have been for quite some time.

MontanaPBS is the only channel with normal audio. "Create" requires decoder.
And it worth to watch and hear

My receiver is ac3 compliant. Do I need anything but a digital cable?

If you read the responses you need some form of AC3 decoder. The easiest route is to simply run it through a surround sound receiver. Rainman posted this in his initial response.

My stereo is an old one. Does any one make a decoder that goes to the TV or would I be better off just getting a new stereo?

Search this forum for Sonic Voom , and you'll find a solution that will cost less than $20.

I paid $125.00 for my SS receiver. Not the greatest out there but had optical input and does the job.
