Help with Dish set up
Hello,
I'm new to FTA. I just got a captiveworks CW600S premium receiver with 90 cm Foretc dish and 0.2 db LNB. Tried to set them up on Telstar 5 and adjusted the azimuth and elevation but didn't get anything. I saw a 68% strength but 0% quality. Can anybody help me out and tell me what is wrong. BTW I live in Lafayette, IN.

set you dish elevation to 42.1 degrees
set azimuth to 197 degrees
set lnb skew to 11.6 degrees.
make sure you set you lnb lo in the receiver to match your lnb
make sure you are using a active transponder check LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite for freq.
now slowly move dish east to west on pole to find signal a 1/16th inch at a time allow 15 seconds for the receiver to see the change if no signal raise or drop the dish by 1 degree and search east and west again continue up or down east or west to you get lock.also remember to mark your starting part on the pole so you can see how far you have moved and you will be able to return to your starting point.

I've done all of these but didn't get any better. Might the location be a problem?

yes it does but will not identify the sat you will need the receiver to do that. or use a sat identifier.

This is a picture of LNB that I have( http://www.gt-sat.eu/product_1.htm) Has anybody any experience with that? I moved my dish to have a clear view using 100 ft coax cable, still I cannot get any quality and the strength is 67%. Might the long cable be a problem for getting IA25 (97 w)? When I blind scan sometimes the receiver get to 95% strength and 60% quality but then drop to 67% strength with 0% quality. Can anybody tell me if that means sth?

it means you are getting close just need to fine tune to get a steady lock.probaly get signal off the side of dish and not from the center.

100 Feet isn't a particularly long cable run. That shouldn't be a problem.
Re the 95%/60% dropping to 67/0 thing, I'm not familiar with your receiver, but if you are doing the blind scan and your receiver has a FTA scan mode, it might mean that you are not aimed at the right sat, but are aimed at one of the DBS sats, and it is picking up one of the low encrypted transponders, and locking on them, but not finding any unencrypted channels. If your receiver has a scan for all option, you might try that with a blind scan. This might scan in encrypted channels. You wouldn't be able to watch video, but it would allow you to tune the channels and see the channel names, and thus give you an idea of where your aim is off. Ie you might be aimed at Nimiq1. You might look to see if you now have a 12224 transponder listed in the transponder list, and try to do a transponder scan in ALL mode if you do.
It also might be that you're aimed at the DTV sat at 101, and your receiver is trying to lock onto one of the DSS transponders. It won't be able to lock these, but might get confused for a few seconds while trying.

I just repositioned my dish and got a "jumping" quality signal. Before that I was receiving G25 (97W) at about 35-40 on my Viewsat Ultra, and 45-50 on my Pansat 3500. It turns out that I was pointing to about 96W and getting interference from G3C. When I moved the dish slightly to the west I received a good signal from G25 (good meaning the same as I noted above). I'm not sure what level the CW 600s will show, but it should be approximately the same as my two boxes. I have a similar size antenna as you and I'm in Toronto, Canada.
Oh, BTW, try blind scanning when you get 60% quality. If you get a channel called AON that means you're pointing to G3C (95W). As I recall, it happened to me when I was trying to get G25 a while back.
