circular c-band

can you have a BSC621-2 installed for circular C Band on 40.5 satellite and watch both regular and circular c-band on the same lnbf on the rest of the satellites?? or do u have to have two lnbf's to watch both type of signals....please advice

there is a plate that comes with the bsc-621 that you install for circular c band and remove for the regular channels.

You "can" watch linear on a circular feed, and circular on a linear feed, however there will be a significant degradation of quality. If you want to do both, you might be better off getting a feed with a polarotor, since when trying to tune these things in, it helps to be able to make fine adjustments to the polarity. Those circular C-band things work by having a teflon plate in the throat when doing circular, and you take it out when doing linear, but to get both circular polarities, and to be able to optimize linear it helps to be able to make fine polarity adjustments. I know you can get one of the teflon slabs for some Chaparrall feeds, but I'm not sure if it will fit on the Co-Rotors. I think Steve said that his 621-2 only does one polarity at a time without moving the slab. There are other circular C-band feeds available, such as ADL, Patriot, Pansat. If this is an important feature, you might look into those feeds. I don't know much about them.

there are quite few channels at 40.5 that does circular c band.

So what feedhorn to you recomended to get both linear and circular?? In lyngsat how do you read the channel that you know is a circular band channel?? is 40.5 the only satellite that has circular band channels?? so instead of bsc 621 that you probaldy need to go outside and take the plate off everytime you want to watch either band, can feedhorns work by not going outside and removing the plate thus watching both bands?

I probaldy repeated the last question with the 1st question.... lol

the circular sats are listed as left(L) and right(R) instead of vertical(V) and horizontal(H). I think that chaparal makes a feedhorn that does circular and use's a polorotor.

Ok here we go. Supposedly you can only get one polarity with the plate installed. I skewed my lnbf (something mosyt say is not required with circular) and manage to get almost everything from 40.5. My dish is set up fixed. I went with the BSC lnbf due to cost. The best pricing I could find for a feedhorn that did circular (not both) was $300.00. That was just the feedhorn. Was told I also would a need wide range lnb (probably have the terminology wrong on that one).

As to using for both in relation to 40.5. I find signal touchy on 40.5 for me in IN with a 8.5' dish and the BSC lnbf. Trying to get both with it in a linear config probably would not work. I have not tried to get linear with the plate installed. There are other sats over the Atlantic that have circular C Band on them. I think 3 or 4 that are viewable from the US. The bulk of channels are on 40.5 though. I have around 125 channels from that sat. Most are South American channels.

My recommendation would be multiple dishes. One setup for circular and one for linear. Something else I have noticed. While the C Band may be circular the Ku from the same sat is usually linear. The exact opposite of the scalar ring piggy back Ku lnbf setup available. If you have any other questions concerning this particular sat and US reception I will do my best to answer.

A note here this is still a circular only option. As Bill has stated while possible to do both signal degradation is high and 40.5 is touchy.

Excellent recommendation and I second that. I had my signal meter attached to my BSC621-2 while installing it and thought I would try sticking in the circular plate. When I did this, the signal level for the linear satellite I was on went way down. So I removed the plate with a quickness.

Note there is a Ku LNBF (Invacom QPH-031) which has connections for both circular and linear.

The problem with using the QPH lnbf along with a normal scalar ring type install is mounting. There is a scalar ring with a circular lnbf installed but I have not checked into how special that lnbf is. If a standard 40mm throat perhaps it could be swapped out for a linear lnbf.
