Near my workplace is a large commercial dish, guessing maybe 4-5 meters in diameter. After work I decided to go over and have a close look at it, as it's not fenced off or protected in any way.
Looking at it carefully, I see six RG-6 cables leading to the feedhorn (LNA/LNB... not sure what it is), and some sort of small control cable... perhaps something that controls the skew angle.
The dish is mounted on a very beefy Az/El mount with
actuators for both axis. I don't know if this dish can transmit or is Rx-only, though I'm guessing it's Rx-only because of the size of the cables, and due to it not being fenced off.
The main reason I went to take a look is that I was having trouble finding commercial dish equipment on the web, for curiosity's sake. I think I was not using the right search terms in google or something. Anyway, I found the manufacturer's name, and then looked on their web site. I will not mention it here, even though I know 95% of what they sell is expensive commercial stuff outside of the range of the average hobbiest like me, and
Sadoun's market. Even so, the web site is interesting in the array of dishes they sell -- Military, portable (back pack style), "fly away" dishes... never heard of those till now, inverted offset, etc. They also have some white papers dish design, and lots of devices I had not heard of (mostly for the Transmit end of things)
I'm posting this because I think some of you would be interested in looking at the web site. Some of you, I'm sure, have heard of this company before. I had not.
If you want to know the name, you can shoot me an email at yeroca "at" yahoo.com
I hope Sadoun is ok with this posting!
