786v3 & STB Editor - Found a way to make it work!!

Yippe Yee Hoo Ray!! Never say die. I found a way to get the 786V3 and the STB editor to work. If yours doesn't work and your interested in getting it to work, I found a way that's safe and doesn't screw anything up.

1st - In STB editor go under tools and select STB to File and it will ask you for a filename. Type in what you want your saved information file named. With this saved, if anything go's wrong you can reload this file to the receiver and you won't lose anything

2nd - go to this ;
http://www.fortecstar.com/downloads/index.asp
For selected receiver choose 786NA and then it will give you a choice of files. It has the firmware file, the uploader program and a file called. DVB786OCT2003 - This file is the latest transponder file for satellite current as of October. Download this file to the root directory of the STB editor on your computer

3rd - Under file menu in STB editor choose "write to STB" It will ask you to select a file and you will select the DVB786ICT2003 file. It will write this Oct transponder file to the STB.

4th - Once the file is uploaded to the STB you have to go thru and have the receiver search each satellite for channels again.

5th - Once the channel searching is done, under files menu in STB editor choose "read from STB". It will then read the file from the receiver to the STB editor and then once that is done make sure to save the file you just downloaded. You will have to choose a new name for this file, call it whatever you want. This will be the working file.

Somehow, at least in my case there must of been a software glitch which would not allow me just to download the receiver info into the STB editor without puking. Now the editor is working just fine and I can add satellites and manually adjust pid's ect. This is wonderful!!. I tested reloading my original file that wouldn't work with the STB back to the receiver to make sure if there were any problems I could at least get back to where I started and it worked just fine.

I'm sure that Sadoun would warn that there are no guarantees when you upload and download software to the receiver, but I found a way to do it and it worked for me and turned out to be safe. Obviously do so at your own risk but just playing around with this editor is opening an entirely new diminsion of enjoyment in using the receiver, especially if you like to play around and search for new channels ect. If any questions please let me know and I will try to help.

Made a new discovery

Hi All;

I also found out that if you are using the STB editor then do not use the remote control to add new transponders or make any transponder changes. If you do, then the next time you try to read the STB information the editor will go back into the application halt mode. If using the editor then make any changes in the editor only and save a copy each time before you make any changes. That way if it should puke you have your older copy to reload to the receiver. BTW if anyone else out there is using the STB editor and the 786, I sure would like to hear from you.
