Finding AMC3, and active transponders.

I am installing a Satellite dish with a STAB motor, So--trying to locate AMC3 at 87 Longitude, I believe it is my Due South Satellite as I am in Atlanta, GA at 84 Longitude. The only Satellite at 84 is BrazilSat, but It does not seem to have any Transponders with NorthAmerican Beam.
Is this a difficult Satellite to locate? Telstar 5 I have located without too much work.

So, How does one read the Transponders on Lyngsat? I want to be sure I choose a strong one when I am looking for the Satellite?

AMC-3

HI;
There are a number of active transponders on amc-3. Some are encrypted and some pbs have ac3 audio so you won't be able to hear them unless you have an ac3 capable receiver. A good one to program in order to find amc-3 is the montana PBS mux. Transponder freq is 12085, the polarity is Horizontal. The symbol rate is 4340 and the FEC is 3/4. If you have the option in your receiver to set the FEC to "Auto" I would do that. Once in a while the FEC is changed and the "Auto" setting will accomodate that. If you look on Lyngsats chart it is very easy to read. The Freq is in the far left column. The transponder polarity is right next to it either H or V. About 2/3 of the way across the column is the Symbol rate and next to that the FEC setting. You will also find audio and video Pids but most receivers will detect that automatically, but if needed the video pid for 12085 is 4194 and the audio pid is 4195. Of course you can't decode encrypted channels but you can still use them to find the satellite. If you put in the right freq, polarity and SR you will still get a hit of the transponder. Good luck :wink:
