Software Uploading

Make double sure you have the right file and reload the software to the receiver. Don't touch or do anything until the receiver reboots on it's own. If it takes 15 or 20 minutes don't touch it. My receiver did that as well when it didn't take the firmware correctly the first time.

As I stated earlier. I had the SAME problem. My receiver was dead with no power showing on the front. It doesn't matter if the receiver has power or not. The firmware is written to an eeprom and your serial cable provides the power to make it work. I don't know if you have the exact same problem or not, but when I reloaded the firmware the receiver worked fine.

Reloading the software should help bring your receiver back to life. However, like aar5ac have said, DON'T touch or unplug your receiver after the download until it turns on by itself.

Make sure your read the details about how to upload the f/w before attempting anything. If not done correctly, attempting to upload the software also might damage your eeprom permanently, if not already damagaed.

BTW, all of the above have voided, or voids your waranntee and you are doing it at your own risk.

It is always recommended that a trained authorized dealer or technician do it for you.

Re: How could I load a software in a dead receiver

Take aar5ac advice. It's the only option for you now...:-(
I think the eeprom somehow got corrupted during upgrading proccess.
If that is the case, the chance to get it fixed by yourself is very slim. Sorry to say that. I am not sure how much it costs to replace the eeprom by the company. Plus the shipping cost, I think it's not worth sending it to Fortec. Getting a new one will be cheaper.
To all,
I would not recommend to upgrade the software unless you feel you have to (big improvement, fix bugs which are annoying to you)
Good luck,
Michael

The computer kept on sending me a message telling me ...

Hi all
I tried to reload the software, but as I said B4 the dead receiver is the main hinderance !!!.
The computer kept on sending me a message telling me to "check power off and on" .
It seems to me that reloading is not possible, since the process is not initiating without the power being connected and "ON" is indicated.
Can any one give any hint.
Thanks

just for FBI, which we all benefit from!!!

Hi
Really the follow up in itself, is an amusement; also it is very rejoycing, esp when achieving sth in the end, that is why I'm jogging behind it!!!
Yes sure I will get an alternative but, as a satellite installer, I'd like to get solutions for the probs, just for FBI, which we all benefit from!!!
Nice to have a forum for exchanging views
