786V3 & STB editing software

I am having trouble setting up the communications between the 786V3 and the STB editing software. I have tried 2 computers, various com ports and a couple different serial cables. The program will say "Please try STB power off and on" and then it will say "Power on detected, just a moment please." Then it go's back to the start with a message on the bottom "STB power off and Try again (2)" Also in the information window it says STB Model: none and Source: None. Perhaps the info doesn't change until contact is made with the receiver. I'm assuming a communications error but at least it's sensing power on to the receiver. The 786V3 manual shows serial connection capability of 115,200. In my computer hardware I have tried default serial speed as well as trying the max of 115,200. It sure would be great to get this to work. Any help appreciated.
