From Calif. to Pas8 ?

Is there anybody in Calif. who can get PAS8 ? I know its right on the edge and theres a lot of space between ECHOSTAR1 and TDRS-5. Kinda like throwing a dart at a flea. I think my limit is around 162.0 east. I just wonder if anybody's been able to get it or if you need something bigger than a 100cm dish.

That's a good question! I'm not in California, but...

It appears that PAS8 is high enough over your horizon that you might be able to aim a dish at it, but a lot of the spot beams are for Asia, so that would be an exercise in futility. The Australian spot beams, however, show a couple of lobes that hit California, but Lyngsat's notoriously skimpy dish-size projections call for a 95-120 cm dish. This all assumes Ku reception. There also appear to be some California lobes for the Pacific beams on C-band.

Beyond just the fun of "can I do this?" lies the real-world consideration that there's not much FTA programming, and some of what there is appears to be available on more easily accessible birds like IA5.

Might be fun to try, though!

SatcoDX DishTrak (tm) PANAMSAT 8 (166.0E)

I clicked on 30N 120W and it looks possible but you might need a huge monster 5m or more and 5.15 elevation = lots of noise.

I looked at either 166e or one close to it with the punjabi channel but the gap past California / satellites is just too huge.

I would have gone 180cm or 240cm with my install but practicality / limitations forced me to go for the time being with 2x 90cm .
For me it was like harvesting peaches with a fishing rod possible but not practical.

PS> hope you guy's east of AZ is ready for snow , had 2 inches up here since last night.

The Sadoun calculator does both properly.
