Cool Mercury II (go to won't go to)

I've got 5 sat's. programed in the unit (I think). When I press GO TO POSITION, GO TO 0, Move, the dish only moves a couple of degrees and stops. I can't get it to go to the sat I want, regaurdless if I use DiSEqC or USALS. I know I missed something somewhere. Also what is meant by locking the channel or sat. does it mean locking it out from the kids or what. I tried holding down the button to get it to move but nothing. Am I suppose to lock in the sat before I can get it to move to the sat? Also when I'm on a sat. and I accidently hit a channel thats on a different sat it says MOVING TO SAT but it only moves a couple of degrees and stops. I know the problem is obvious but I can't find it.

"Lock on Sat" means "Lock on target". Ever watched Top Gun with Tom Cruise?

Yeah, the lock refers to the receiver receiving digital data in DVB format. First the receiver sees signal, but if there are errors in the digital data due to poor signal quality, or if the signal is not in DVB format, or if you aren't using the right SR value, then you won't get a lock.
For example if you tune to a transponder that has a Digicipher signal instead of a DVB signal, the receiver may be getting strong reception on that signal, but it can't decipher it because it isn't in DVB format, so you won't get a lock.

to clarify, if it's a MENU BUTTON/OPTION selection, thats a parental lock.

If its a LEVEL INDICATION / Bar Graph sort of thing, it's signal lock.

Make sure you're Latitude and Longitude are entered correctly. That can cause issues with motor. Bad cables can do this, too.

I still can't figure out what's wrong. I bring up the sats. I installed and press GO TO POSITION (USALS) or press MOVE (DiSEqC) and the dish only moves about 2 degrees then stops. I don't know what I missed, I've been all over the installation book and can't see where I went wrong (somebody slap me). My sat. limits are turned off and MY lat. and long. are programed in. the bar pops up and says its moving then stops. Somebody throw something else at me that I can check.Thanks.

-- Take the receiver out to the dish, use 5 feet of different coax cable?

-- Measure the voltage on the cable with a meter as you move east/west?
(no motor attached)

It could be defective motor. My HH90 did kind of the same thing - would move a bit, then back & forth a couple degrees at a time. Sent it back to Fortec and it was replaced, now all well & good.

Thumbs down

Yeah I guess I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work I'll give them a call on Monday. Thanks.

Sg2100

I think I may have found the problem. I looked at the installation book for the SG2100 and under MANUAL BUTTON it says to keep pressing to make it to keep moving. I tried that with the receiver, then with the battery pack, they both did the same thing (move a couple degrees then stop). I reset the motor and that did nothing so I'm guessing the motor is the problem. Somebody give me some feedback on this before I jerk the motor and send it back. Thanks.

Out of shame, I deleted my response here. I was all wrong. I had remembered wrong. I was confusing going east/west with running continuously.

I tried both ways and the dish only moves a couple of degrees then stops. Try it again and same results.

Sg2100

OK, I tried reseting the motor and it did nothing so I'll call them tom. and see what they say. Man I was really getting into all the channels I could pick up just from 2 sats. I had C-Band for about 13 years and the channels just slowly started disapearing. I had about 15 good channels to watch including FOX & UPN but their slowly starting to disappear. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks.
