? LNB type question

I'm using a Fortec Star Lifetime receiver.
My LNB IF is 10750. When I first tried to lock onto Ku signals, I decided to try the "Universal 2" lnb type, which indicates frequencies of 9750/10750. This worked for many signals. However
I was having trouble finding a few signals, so I tried to change to "Standard" lnb type, and type in 10750 manually. To my surprise, this worked.
Question is WHY? What do the 2 freqs in the Universal 2 type imply? I assumed that if the input transponder freq was between 11700 and 12200, that it would use 10750, and if the input transponder freq were between some other range, that it would use 9750. I had assumed that the 2 ranges in question wouldn't overlap, so that there would be any ambiguity, but I'm starting to think that the ranges must overlap? Ie perhaps
the bottom range is from 10700 to 11900, or something like that ???
The freq I was having trouble with was 11760, which would be within
both of these ranges, so the receiver may have picked the wrong
range?
Is my guess at the cause anywhere close to correct?? Thanks.
