Lifetime receiver..? uploader and channel editor?

Have any users of the Fortec Star Lifetime receiver sucessfully used the software uploader and the gTools channel editor program?
Re the uploader, I'm curious how long the transfer takes. I have numerous power outages here, and I'm worried about having a power outage during the transfer if the transfer takes a long time.
Re the gTools editor, I don't see any controls to upload/download to/from the receiver. I'm confused, is this program in real time contact with the receiver while it runs?
I'd just like to have some idea of how these 2 programs work before I risk using them on the receiver.
