Need Help with 1 Meter Fortec Star Dish & Motor

I purchased a 1 meter Fortec Star Dish SG 2100 Motor and Invacom LNB 2 weeks ago. I cannot get it all to work automatically. My due south satellite is Sat 97. Installed the dish on my roof and the SG 2100 motor even in manual mode is labouring when driven from east to west. The motor seems to cut out at times when trying to manually drive it. Have a ViewSat Extreme FTA box and someone even told me that this dish is not compatable with a ViewSat. Is this true?

Also the Dealer here in Canada is insisting I spend $60.00 more and trade in the SG 2100 motor for a Stab HH 120 Motor!! He says the SG 2100 motor is underpowered for this 1 meter dish, and can't understand why the local dealer sold me the SG 2100 motor. But will the Stab HH 120 motor work with the ViewSat?

Any replies would be very much appreciated.

First thing I'd do is get right out at the dish with a short RG6 cable, stb, and TV set and make sure that this is not a cable problem. If you're lucky , you may get by by making new terminations and shortening up cable length.
The Viewsat is a poor choice for controlling a motor, better choices are FortecStar and Coolsat . You're stuck with the Viewsat, I know, so let's hope the cabling is bad. Make sure you cable straight to the motor from the Viewsat, all switches should be between motor and lnb. You could even remove the cable to the lnb temporarily, to make sure that a faulty lnb or connection on that side is not "hogging" current .

Need Help with 1 meter Fortec Star Dish & Motor

Thanks for the reply. Had the Viewsat on the roof with a little TV on Friday. No success with motor on the dish. So going by dealer's recommendation removed motor for a possible tradeup to hh120 motor tomorrow. Is this new Stab hh120 motor a better match for my setup, and will it work?

Tried to find my due south sat 97 with new elevation setting (without motor) and found 2 TP's that were pegging up to 100% on Q, and 43% on S, they were 12115, and 12122. But after I did a sat scan still had no sat 97 channels!! Is there a reason why? Or am I still not aligned properly to sat 97? Would a Sat Finder be better for finding sat 97 and others?

the 120 should be a good fit for your dish. the meter on the receiver works the best just remember to allow a few seconds after each move for the receiver to see the change.

The 2100 should be fine for your dish. The first issue I would be looking at is dish mount location in relation to shaft length. The dish should be mounted as low on the shaft as possible. The next thing I would look at would be what type of tp were you using to move the dish? H or V? If the dish was mounted high on the shaft and you were using a H transponder that in itself could be all of your problem.
