What am I doing wrong - Channel Master?

My system is working fine (as a stationary one - I won't get into that, lol). Anyway I got a channel master program to do channel editing. However I can't get the info to download from my box to my computer. I have tried the null cable as well as a straight cable. Is there a trick to this? Btw I have the Lifetime Classic NA.

Just how did you upload it from the box?

There should be a software at Fortecstar.com and before you download it from there they give you instructions, and what cable to use.

So slightly off-topic.. but what does this Channel Master do for you? It simply allows you to edit channel names from the computer instead of using the Remote?

Is that all it does? Seems just a hassle to hook up and upload the file for a simple function... maybe I'm missing something...

Well, if you are pressing remote keys faster than typing (and copying and pasting), then it's more hassle

I dont see the need to really edit the channels... so the channel names are kinda short and not 100% descriptive, but I know what channels are with their default names... I guess I really dont need to edit it to an exact name of my liking.. also, I'm always afraid that if I delete the satelllite and rescan , I gotta use CM (channel master) to reload my editing channels again.. what a pain...

With channel master you can manage channels by:
Rename, Sort, Move, Delete, Delete dublicated channels, sort (by SID, name, TP...) Add to fav. lock, skip and so much more. It's easier than using the receiver's remote.

Thanks man. Thats what I was doin wrong. I was using the way we did our old box and this classic na is just a bit different but it was enough to keep me from connecting the box and the puter.

After scanning AMC3 I have several "TV1" and "TV2" for each transponder, and I confuse them, so it's better to rename them into "Montana PBS" and "Create". Also, for G10R, at least, makes sense to mark which channels are UNIVISION, so they don't get in a way, when don't need them.
If I accidentally delete orf rescan channels, I use my previously edited file to simply copy/paste whatever did not change.
Also, I can edit channel list for Ultra and upload it to both Ultra and Coolsat, just need to save it in two different formats.
