Will Fortan series receivers able to....

Hi and I'm wondering if those Fortan series receivers are able to receive analog channels on Ku-Band birds since I noticed on lynsat.com that some Ku-Bandk birds carries NTSC channels. I am also puzzled with listings that shows letters like 'A' or 'U' or whatever and what those means to me.

Thank you!

Yes, that is what I was talking about those receivers so that means I won't able to receive analog channels on Ku-Band birds so do you know which receiver which is capable to do both analog and digital also to answer your question, the listing for each satellite has the colum that is on 4th and 5th column from left for example Echostar 3 and Rainbow 1 satellite's channel line-up at: http://www.lyngsat.com/61west.html

If memory serves me correct there are maybe 1 or 2 analog Ku feeds left out there. Are you perhaps confusing a sat that transmits both C & Ku and thinking the C Band analogs are from the Ku side?

elgemcdlf,

Yup, I am trying to get my database of all satellites sorted out and when I check each satellite, I noticed on the 6th column some of Ku-Band channels are transmitted NTSC also I wanted to get all the C-Band satellites out of my database so that I can continues to anaylze to make sure that I have enough birds in my clear of view Clarke Belt and I noted some birds carry both C and Ku bands. I am using Lyngsat.com to obtain the listings. Hope that will clear your mind up

Any questions?????

Cool

Okay, thanks for everything so I now understand that there is no analog/digital receivers at all as analog channels will soon disappers and am I right FTA HD channels are very new and few at this time so there is a few HD capable receivers out there but I understand it takes time for it to mature.

I also realize that there is over 2,000 FTA channels scattered among a bunch of Ku-Band birds.

Again, thank you very much for the input!

I know that there isn't much analog left, but there's more than that. I just did a quick surf of channels, and found 5 analog KU channels, and on the weekends when there are sporting events, you'd find even more. The thing about analog KU though is that it's all occasional video stuff, different places each time, so you're never quite sure where to look for it. However SBS6, and AMC5 and a couple other sats in that general area often have analog. Not much, and will be getting even less, but it's still nice to have analog capability.

BTW, 2 of the analog signals I just ran across were of some incredible maze cut into some vegetation of some sort. One feed was an air view, and the other a view from the ground. Don't have a clue what it was. Other feeds were a couple reporters somewhere near a house, a classroom feed, and a couple slates. So actually 7 including the slates.

Hey Wejones, I understood, what brand of receiver you used to receive those analog Ku-band channels? Most of the guys says that all Forten Star FTA receivers can't receive analog channels (RATS!) Your experience sounds really fun!

The Fortec receivers can not receive analog. I run a DSR922 which does both but not DVB

I'm using a 12 yr old Drake 1824 for analog. Also have a backup Monterey 50/55. THe analog receiver controls my main dish, and the Fortec and Twinhan are slaved to it.

Wow! you are so lucky to have one still in good working order so I now can understand clearly that analog receivers are almost gone since the satellite technology have changed so much!! so that is OK
