Question Having problems peaking Fortec Star w/GSP 120 Motor

I have a 90cm Fortec Star Dish attached to a GeoSatPro 120 dish motor.

I set the Motor elevation to match my Latitude, which is 38

And I set my Dish elevation according the the user manual, which is 24

The mast is dead on perfect.

I'm having trouble finding my southern most sat, which is G10/123 although I did use a compass to get it as close as possible.

I also have an Invacom Quad LNB with both Linear and Circular connected.

I can get some of the sats, such as 91 and 148, but I have to set my Dish elevation to 31, and I can't get any of the other sats.

When I set the Dish elevation to the recommended 24 degrees, I get nothing.

Why the discrepency, and how can I resolve this?

Thanks.

Edit: Reading some of the Fortec threads, I see that there is about a 5 degree discrepency with the Fortec dishes, which would explain why I get a couple of sats with the dish at 31 degrees instead of at 24 degrees.

But I still can't get numerous other sats, nor can I hit my southern most sat.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Ok let's start over. Mast needs to be plumb. To receive G10R you need to be using one of the L ports of that lnbf. If you do not have one of the little squeeler sat finders buy one from Sadoun. They are inexpensive. Now with USALS tell the receiver to go to G10R. If you have USALS set up properly and it is your south sat the motor should not move far. Now very slowly rotate the assembly on the mast east to west for peak signal. Once found raise/lower dish elevation to achieve peak signal.

You must be on an active transponder to do this. There is no reason to look for anything else until you find true south properly. I assume you are using the correct switches requird for that lnbf.

Thanks, I'll try again tomorrow after work.

One question: If I peak the elevation using the dish instead of the motor EL, wouldn't that throw off the arc?

Would it be better to peak the dish using the motor EL instead?

At least, for aiming at your "true south sat", leave the motor elevation set to your latitude. Only change so called "declination angle" by moving a dish up and down.
There have been reports that with 90cm dish, scale on dish bracket may be off, probably, because the same bracket is used for both 80cm and 90 cm dishes, and they have different offset angles, PLEASE, READ THIS THREAD:
http://www.sadoun.net/forums/install...highlight=90cm
Also, ou can do search on this forum for "90cm".

Thanks, got it resolved.

Managed to lock onto 123 and set it.

BTW, I had to set the dish elevation to 30.5 degrees.

I used the Sun to find True South using this web site:

http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/AltAz.html

After that, all I had to do was adjust the dish EL
