help slaving dvb receiver to uniden president 500xl

I am trying to slave a dvb reciver to my unidenPS500XL It has only 1 rf input so this diagram will not work. http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/A.../Bud-slave.htm

I think i will have to use a 0 to 12 volt switch and put them after the spiltters.Am i correct?I have a corotor II + feed horn with norsat 8115 cband lnb and norsat 4106a ku lnb. This is the switch i think i need to use.

I'm not familiar with that receiver, but I'm confused with respect to how you get both C and Ku band into the receiver if it only has one input?

You have both C and Ku coaxes, and I assume that both of these come into the house, (unless you already have some kind of external switching out at the dish) , then you just feed the C and Ku coaxes to the splitters just like your first link describes. It really doesn't matter what the arrangement at your analog receiver is.

But I'm really confused how you can get both C and Ku out of that Uniden receiver if it only has one input. That would mean that you'd have to do some fancy switching when switching from C to Ku. It can be done obviously, but I've just never seen a C / Ku capable receiver that didn't have separate inputs for the 2 bands. I do have a Uniden receiver with only one input, but it just does C band, and I have another brand receiver with one input, that does only Ku.

How new of a receiver is this uniden PS500 XL ??? Ie is it new enough to have a built in dish mover and VCII (ie an IRD) ?? Just curious, because I haven't seen a receiver like that.

I have I beleive it's a TRX80 that only has 1 input, but does both c/ku.I was told by skyvision that it took some kind of switch made by chaparal, that they don't stock anymore.I was wondering where ,if I ever needed to use it,if sadoun or someone might have a switch that would combine the 2 into 1 input like the switch that it came out with did?

That makes sense. One lnb for H and one for V and the switch changes which input to use.

Switching the 2 inputs into 1 is only half the problem. The other half is that it would have to switch between regular video and reversed video. Seems to me that to save an input, they have made things pretty complicated.
Interesting.

Mine has a switch on the back for cband or if you have c/ku you click the switch on back to c/ku.The remote has a c and ku buttons on it.It's an older receiver and the tech I talked to said they came with the receiver.I bought the the whole system cheap. It was old and only had a cband lnb and feedhorn on it.I don't think many people fooled around with ku when he used it.The tech told me the switch name and model no.a few yrs.back and I googled for it and checked a few sites, but never found it.I had it written down, but can't find it now. It's a toshiba I think and seems to be a pretty good receiver with lots of features, except for that one.I was keeping it for a spare, but I have an extra mpeg2 receiver along with the TRX80 and was thinking about putting it up.I also have an HTS analog receiver and it only has one input too.I guess before I use it I might can talk to a tech there again and get the info again, but I don't know if I'll be able to find it.Maybe they will have one for the HTS.

I'm curious.... is anyone familiar with that switch? Ie does it pass power to the LNB that isn't selected?
I have 2 VERY OLD 12V switches, one of which passes power to both LNBs, but I'm pretty sure that the other one doesn't, although I've never used it.
I was just curious, because if he splits the lines coming from the LNBs before this switch, it it doesn't pass power to both, then the DVB receiver would only be able to access the LNB being powered.
The switch I have that DOES pass power is a very complicated thing though, and requires external power, not just through the coax.

Thanks wildboys and rainman, the switch that wildboys linked to sounds like it should work.I may try to google search the 524 switch to see what the difference in the two are. Those may be updated and cheaper versions than the one it came with.

I'm not really sure wejones.I've bookmarked the switch that wildboys linked to so I can find it next time.I'm gonna try checking a little more to see if that will work for this type of analog receiver.

In my manual it says the ust-524 is only needed to connect vertical and horizonal lnb to receiver. It shows a switch like the one sadoun sells for switching ku and cband lnb's.Two wires comes from the 12 volt switch and goes to gnd and switch on the back of the receiver. The to lnb outs go into the A and B port of the switch. The switch output goes into the rf input of the receiver. To switch from ku to cband you hit a button on the remote.
