Question What LNB to use with mesh dish? (10 foot TVRO dish)

--Hi, all. I am trying to set my friend up with FTA, but I don't know too much about it. He has a 10 foot mesh satellite dish for TVRO and I was wondering if this LNB would work (for FTA, I mean)? http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/S...-C-KU-LNBF.htm

--He has a regular C band LNB on there with the servo motor that changes from Horizontal to Vertical. Will this kind of LNB work as well for FTA, or not? Do you know what kind of polarization FTA satellite signals are? For some reason, I was thinking that FTA signals were circular or something other than H/V, so that made me think that a TVRO LNB would not work properly.

--If the above LNB will work, great! I would like to get him set up at a fair price, but properly of course. Thanks!

P.S.
What kind of dish mover would he need to use with his "big dish"? The actuator he has on there now will not hook up to an FTA receiver.

If the big dish is working, most people just slave an FTA receiver to the big dish receiver, ie let the big dish receiver power the lnbs and move the dish. Is the big dish a C/Ku or just C band? If it's a C/Ku, it will have the advantage over a C/Ku lnbf because it has adjustable polarity. Ie an lnbf can just change between H and V, but a big dish feed with a polarotor can fine tune polarity which is important for sats that have non standard polarity, like AMC1-Ku. It used to be that there were 3 or 4 such sats, but I think AMC1 is the only one right now.

Anyway, unless the big dish receiver isn't operational, I'd recommend just using it, and slaving the FTA receiver to it. It is a little more complicated switching channels, but you have more control.

you can use the lnb's he got on the dish but you will have to slave the fta receiver to the analog receiver so the analog receiver can control the polarity. if he does not have a analog receiver use the bsc-621. sold by Sadoun.the motec dish positioner will operate the dish acuator also sold by Sadoun.

Some Pansat receivers will control servo motors. You of course have the problem of steering which can be handled by the converter box sold by Sadoun but IMHO the best route to follow would be near what Bill stated. A big dish receiver with the DVB box slaved to it. That way you get tv from both receivers plus the ability to steer along with control the servo motor.

It is less expensive than going straight DVB FTA on this type of dish. The converter box is roughly $100. plus the lnbf vs. you can have the receiver for less than $100. used.

Re the connection diagram...... it shows what to do assuming you have splitters with on port DC-pass and the other port DC-blocked. If, however, you have splitters (such as generic RS splitters) that are not DC-blocked, you'll need to add a DC-block to the 2 coax between the splitters and the DiseqC switch.
