Updating FLU

I have been to the Fortec website and downloaded the latest bin and loading software. I have a new FLU, but it was purchased approximately 2 years ago and due to move and job transfer, I am just now getting around to updating the receiver.

My question is, the STB Updater has options for the following.

Flash rom File
Channel Data File
Boot file

Flash Rom File is selected by default. Is this the correct setting? Just wanting to make sure befor I procede. Any other helpful tips appreciated, as this is the first time I have done this.

yes that is what you want, flash rom.
You do not need either other option.

Do a "system reset" before you start (with the old code in the box).
PW is 1668

Run the upgrade to send the code to the box.

WAIT FOR THE FINISH INDICATION. It will happen many seconds (about 30 or so) after 100 percent complete transfer.

Do another "system reset" again after the sucessful download.

I used windows XP on a system with a REAL serial port.

Make sure you use a straight thru serial cable (not crossover).

Thanks for the reply, pmb1010. I have printed out your reply to go by. I had no idea a password was in the procedure, so that may be the most valuable piece of info I got from your post..

I too will be using XP, straight through F-F cable with serial port on the back of computer

Too late for tonight, but got it scheduled for tomorrow night.

Thanks again

here's the thread from when I did my box a couple years ago:

http://www.sadoun.net/forums/fortec-...t=system+reset

I've been running that code for over 2 years.
I just the other day updated to the latest code on Fortec site, to try to see if it would help with memory screwups (there is aonther thread I started on that topic on here somewhere) on my ultra.
Not sure yet. Rebuilding my sat lists...

I do not mean to hijack. But is it worth it to do any updates? Do the updates fix any issues normally. I guess the best question is there a list of fixes features per update listed anywhere?

From the original firmware, I am aware of one MAJOR fix. With the original firmware, if you scanned in a transponder which had a HD channel, and then changed channel to that channel. it would deactivate your remote control, and you'd have to turn the receiver off and on to recover. If your receiver doesn't do this, then it's probably new enough that it may not be worth updating, but if your receiver DOES do this, then it's definately worth updating.
I'm sure there were other things, but this was the main reason I did the update.
