Portable FTA

Just wanted to know if anyone has ever tried to do an FTA setup remote i.e. while camping, etc. My thought would be to get some 12V "gel cell" batteries, an inverter to power the TV and FTA box, and a tripod. Might be easy to setup depending on your location and also a good way to get TV in the middle of nowhere........ I think that it would be a blast.

See the thread Dish Size. I had to hinge a dish to get it to fit through the hole. Could easily hinge the C Band dish into sizes easily handled when in transport.

A tripod might be a problem, since there is so much weight on the front with a larger dish. I built up something at home with Unistrut and a steel plate to bolt to. It uses pipe flanges to level it.

I want to build one out of aluminum and try it outdoors at the local park. Steel is waaaayyyyy too heavy!

Also, stay away from those cheap-o DC-to-AC inverters they make for using a laptop in the car. They make tons of interference on a radio....probably would make lines in the TV monitor, too. I'm asking Santa for a marine-type inverter, with really good filtering.
