Mercury II looks great!

When is the next Fortec coming out, after the Merc II?

I wish Fortec would come out with a receiver that either has it built in or an option to add a UHF remote

I agree with you Iceberg. I have told them about the UHF feature and they have opted not to include it in the new receivers. I will keep stressing it until they have it.

Sadoun...one minor correction

The classic does do timers. I use it all the time to set the box to turn on, change channel if need be and turn off at a time. I set it to "VCR record" and program the VCR or HDD to turn on at same time.

Wink mercury II clock sucks

The clock on my new Mercury II runs slow. Supposedly, the new firmware would correct it.

The receiver loses two minutes a day. This makes it totally useless for recording programs while you are away....which is why I wanted the receiver in the first place. (No, wait. In the first place, my old receiver died...the second place was I needed the timer.)

Anyway, Fortec says there is no clock in the receiver, The software simulates a clock but it can run slowly.

Buyer beware....at least, until they chose to correct this problem.

Mike

(edited to include): Fortec now says the service providers don't keep their time signals correct. Indeed! I surveyed five or six signals from the kU side of T5 and discovered that nearly all had the correct UTC time, but for some reason half didn't translate to my time zone, and the remaining station was off by 25 minutes.

Fortec, please put a REAL clock in your receivers. The last unit I had (Ultra) worked beautifully.

(end additional material.)

Moving forward, but not quite ready for the future.

The Mercury II looks like a great improvement. I am still using an Ultra--it is almost 4 years old but it continues to provide great service.

I really hoped the next generation Fortec would combine FTA digital Satellite with FTA Digital Terrestial. Here in Atlanta, like most larger cities, all of the local networks are broadcasting in Digital . How nice it would be to seemlessly switch between Satellite and Locals, it is my understanding that some of the Fortec models sold in Europe already integrate the two technologies.

Now, if Fortec can just strike a deal with dishnet or directv to combine all of the technologies (DBS Subscription, DVB-T, DVB-S) into one unit--what a paradise we would have!
