Fortec Star Lifetime receiver supports AC3 digital sound

We have a new f/w upgrade for the LifeTime receiver to enable you to receive the AC3 sound from the PBS stations.

To download new software for the LifeTime go to the download section of www.fortecstar.com

LIFETIME Satellite Receiver

Uploader - v.2.4 ( May 12, 2003): This is Lifetime specific - don't use V 3.0
The Uploader is needed for transferring the firmware from your PC to your receiver. Intended for use with Windows XP. Female-to-female 9-pin straight through serial cable needed.

Firmware - v.2.15 NTSC ( June 13, 2003): Application file version 2.15 for NTSC TV systems (used in North America). This version will allow you to listen to AC3 broadcasts (Dolby Digital 5.1) when your Lifetime receiver is connected to a Dolby decoder.

The PBS channels are on AMC 3 (87.0W), TP 12110 are broadcast free-to-air in Dolby Digital.

STB Editor v.1.55 ( May 12, 2003): To edit channel information.
(Intended for use with Windows XP. Female-to-female 9-pin straight through serial cable needed.)

Notes:
~ You will need a straight through female-female 9pin serial cable
~ Use Uploader V 2.4 only
~ Upload new firmware
~ After you upload the F/W to the receiver, go to SYSTEM SETUP and do a FACTORY SETTING (master reset)

We will continue to add improvement to the firmware get the best performance out of this receiver.

Enjoy and tell others about this.

? Channel Editor for Lifetime with Win 98?

I recently bought a Fortec Star Lifetime, and have had some success loading in some sats, but would like to try using the channel editor computer program.
I first downloaded the STBEDITOR intended for other receivers, and ran it on Win98 without connecting to the receiver just to see what it looked like. It seemed straightforward. Then I read that I should have downloaded GTOOLS.EXE instead. I downloaded it, and tried to run it on Win98, again without connecting the receiver, however it seems to be missing functionality to download/upload from the receiver? Is this a problem with my having Win98, or does this functionality automatically become active when I have it connected to the receiver?
There is no HELP file included with this program, so it is not easy to see how to use it. Has anyone used this program, who can make a quick comment on how it is used?
thanks.

That program is intended for Windows XP. That is why you are not getting all functionality.

Having been developed by a 3rd party, the help file is not done or completed.
