Huh?
Repeat with a few "enters" inbetween your comments, and questions, please.
It's really hard to read what you are asking for in your post.

OK, lets set some basics.
1. This is the stations you will get:
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Channels/C...tellite-TV.htm
If from this list you are comfortable with what you will see, then lets take the next step.
2. Can you get a good "view" of satellites? Go outside, look directly to the south. Look up at about 45 degrees.... Then look to the left, and to the right. Approximate what a "rainbow" would look like at that view, with the top of the arc about at the south locaiton.
Do you have a good, unobstructed view of this part of the sky?
If so, then yes the M2 system will be enough of what you need to watch some tv.
You'll, need some coaxial cable to go from the satellite install spot to where your TV is. You must use RG-6 cable.
Other than that, you won't need anything else. Maybe a compass to line things up. But no you dont need any surge supressors or stuff like that.
You will need a place to put this thing. Some type of mount or pole. Do you have any idea where you might mount a dish 30" in diameter?

just the receiver.
The m1 system comes with Lifetime "classic"
and m2 comes with "ultra".
They are essentially the same.
I have an ultra. I have not worked with the classic unit.
Sadoun says he likes the newer "classic" model because it's a little bit faster in scanning or something like that.
You'll do fine with either system.

I believe you are sadly mistaken about the true nature of FTA. You will not get local U.S. channels like ABC and PBS. Your last post indicates you to be in an OTA frame of mind. I suggest you consider DishNetwork or DirecTv -- not FTA. You will be disappointed.
Good Luck

shoot, if i could only get two channels, i'd welcome RTP and all those 'rang a rang' channels even though i dont understand anything they are saying.
so if you want that kind of variety and are willing to experiment a little, you should get lots of stuff. If i understood the original post, you might already have an RG6 line from the old directTV system.
anyway, when your gear gets there let us know if you need help setting up.

Yes, she did say that. Also that her old DSS dish was mounted on a pole. So I suspect trees were an issue at that time if the installer put in a pole; doesn't seem like the best place for a motorized dish, but we'll see I guess. Good luck, flcowgirl... we will help you out once your system arrives.

Well, I would try the house mount location first. Stand at where the dish was and look to the south and west; if it looks clear (no trees in the way) then that is a good spot for your new FTA dish and motor. Make sure that when the motor swings the full arc, the dish does not hit the house wall or roof. If it does then the pole location would be better. Very hard to tell without seeing your place.

Be sure to check the pole for plumb before attempting to use it. Checking several here in Indiana I have found many are far from true. Not a requirement on a fixed dish as all you need to do is adjust the dish to compensate for any discrepencies in pole installation. A motorized dish requires a perfectly straight pole.
My solution to pole installs is to use a 4x4 post (wood). That way if the pole is in the ground a bit off kilter you can adjust in your mount to get the pole back into plumb. That is unless you are using concrete in which case just set your pole and line it up then wait till the concrete dries.
