inline amplifier

I installed an inline amplifier to my system (fortec lifetime ultra receiver), it rised the signal strength bar from 70% to 85% for Galaxy 3C, but quality dropped from 60% to 50%. Just wondering why? and it seems not provide any help in this situation.

I had an inline amplifier too and itcaused my motor to start moving at odd times. Once I took it out everything worked fine.

Make sure the Inline amplifier is installed about 2ft from the dish side. It should not be close to the receiver.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. Mine was installed about half way between the dish and the receiver.

I've never had to resort to an inline amp, but I'd have to agree with the halfway theory. Reason being that the LNB is already an amp, and it doesn't make sense to me to amplify an already strong signal, as you'd probably get clipping, while if you do it at a point where the signal has dropped a bit, I think it would be more effective. However experience is probably more reliable than my opinion.
However, I do agree that it doesn't do much good if placed close to the receiver. Also, an inline amp shouldn't be needed at all, and may give worse results, if the coax is less than about 300' long.

Putting the Inline Amp any where between LNBF and 1/2 way through the coaxial is fine. The longer the run the closer to 1/2 way point is better.

If you put it closer to receiver, it will amplify noise signals (microwave,UHF,VHF,Radio, etc) captured by cable. That will actually make the satellite signal worse.
